Hurricane Harvey hit Texas August 25th, 2017. It was a category 4 Hurricane. The damage that was caused by Harvey was catastrophic flooding in South-eastern Texas. Houston area got hit with a natural amount of rainfall, receiving more than 50 inches. Rockport area not only endured coastal flooding but high winds and over 10 tornados in the Coastal Bend region. The damage caused by Hurricane Harvey is estimated to be over $125 billion dollars.
That is where we come in. We have been in Texas from August 28th. We are a non-profit disaster relief organization. We pride ourselves our going in early and staying late when a disaster hits. We plan on being in Texas until August 2020 to continue to rebuild and assist the survivors of Harvey.

This is a great opportunity to help those in need. It is also a great way to meet new people. We have volunteers from all over the world. You will be able to learn and gain lots of construction skills each day, and leave with so much more than you came with.
REBUILD: We are currently in the rebuild phase of the project for a majority of our sites. This is the more deliberate construction phase. We start by installing new mold-resistant insulation, and restoring walls and ceilings with new drywall, and floors with tile or other floorings. We then install doors, baseboards, window trim, light fixtures, cabinets, countertops, and major household appliances. Finishing the walls with texture and paint is an important part of maintenance, but also makes a house feel like a home again, helping homeowners move forward past the devastation.
RESPONSE: Mucking is the removal of mud, muck, silt, and other typically semi-solid material from a home because of water inundation. Gutting Is the tearing out and removal of construction-related materials from a home that has been damaged by water, including protruding nails in exposed studs and flooring. Final Cleaning and Sanitizing (post gutting, pre-mold treatment): The final and thorough cleaning of any remaining dried or wet remnants from the structure after gutting to prepare for mold control and treatment activities. Completion is typified by the absence of all nails, piles of dust/contaminate, standing water in the basement/crawlspace, and surfaces having been cleaned and rinsed of any dirt, mud, or other contaminants.
Our bases are communal living style. There can be up to 37 volunteers on base at one time. We have a communal kitchen, where few volunteers will stay back and cook dinner for the group each night. The kitchen is also free to use whenever you would like. We provide 3 meals a day on working days only. The work week is Tuesday-Saturday. Sunday and Monday are the days off each week, we do not provide food on days off, volunteers are responsible for their own. The base has shower trailers, bunk beds, and a common area.
