We have a five acre developing farm in the beautiful South Kona area of the Big Island of Hawaii. Our land is situated on the Mauka (mountain) side of the Highway in a beautiful semi-rainforest microclimate area at 1500-1600 feet elevation. This is an opportunity for an individual or couple to assist in the challenges of clearing, planting and developing a sustainable farm while protecting and preserving our native Ohia forest. Wake up to the melodies of our beautiful songbirds, experience the cooler mountain air.
Our son Eric lives on and manages the property, and would welcome the help of others that share in his passion for agriculture and permaculture on our fertile soil.

Two thirds of our property is under a native forest protection agreement, and the property contains areas of archaeological significance. We believe that we can successfully farm the land, while preserving and protecting the natural and cultural treasures of this land. We would love to share this experience with others who share the value of agroforestry and permaculture.

We need help with land clearing, building more gardens, planting orchards, propagation and horticulture, nursery care, land clearing and upkeep, building and carpentry, beautifying, adding your own perspective, style and personality to the land and community.
Building, carpentry, engineering, design and organizational experience are very useful, but the most important prerequisites are interest, willingness to learn, independent motivation, passion, energy, and a love of nature

Currently, we have a large tent structure with hardwood floor and carpet. We have a primitive composting toilet, and are working on an outdoor shower and outdoor kitchen for the Workaway site. We are currently sharing our kitchen space and shower while developing the workaday space. Because we are an off-grid property, we ask that our workers respect and conserve energy and water supplies. We will provide a small food allowance and shopping for food supplies for each worker. Workers can help themselves to food grown on the farm.
If you have Verizon service you may receive some decent cellular internet reception on your cellular device. No wireless internet is available in our area.
We are located just nine miles south of beautiful Ho'Okena Beach and about 30 miles south of Kailua Kona in the Kona Coffee belt. There is daily bus service that picks up on the highway below our property. Many people hitchhike to destinations on the Big Island.
