Hello! I am an eccentric artist/spiritual healer & teacher/Social worker/ Tarot card reader and kind person. I live with my two dachshunds in a quite small three-room flat in North London. My 13-year-old son lives here with me half of the time. He has his own room and I use the largest room. My double front bedroom is sometimes like an art studio, sometimes a guest room and sometimes... for Workawayers like you!
We are definitely an LGBTQI+ household and would be very comfortable with someone who identifies in this way. Also spiritual seekers, yogis, meditators, esoterics, anarchists, tarot readers, diviners artists and anticapitalist activists will find common ground here. Not really a place for people who are easily shocked by radical political opinions non-binary/queer/trans expressions of life and Joy!
Since the changes in the way we all live, I have begun to work at home much more, and since my home has become my workplace more and more. I also have some health conditions that require rest sometimes and I need someone to help me keep on top of just some normal household things like cleaning, shopping, dog walking and rearranging shelves or hanging pictures. There is basically a daily/weekly routine of chores that are written down for you, and some extra tasks here and there. It's also helpful if you are good at DIY because I'm not!
There will be plenty of time for you to explore London as you like or do anything else you want to do, including a part time job. There are things to do everyday and some things to do every week but it does not even amount to 5 hours of work a day most of the time probably. Part of the volunteering would be helping me out with video shooting and things I I publish online for my spiritual art practice.
The more important thing is that you see this as an experience. I am happy to teach or practice yoga and meditation with you once at a week at a set time, and I can also read or teach you tarot, and we want to to eat most evenings together because I will cook most evenings (you are also invited but not required to cook and I would usually also eat on my own with my son once a week or so, so he and I can have together time.) For breakfast and lunch I provide food or you can do your own..
So it is expected that along with the things you do to help that you will also be part of the household in other ways! (I say this because of some experiences in which people just wanted to work for a room in London and that is not exactly what this is, as we would like to at least share meals! Although there is plenty of on-your-own time in your quiet private room.
We have two fun and friendly dachshunds and they do bark a lot and need lots of cuddles and attention. You might get to walk them but probably one at a time! They go out about twice a day and are two different sizes so have slightly different exercise requirements but we share their walks.
The room is medium sized but has a big table in it and some other of my art studio things, but there is some shelf and closet space for you. It has been an art studio and it looks more like that kind of work room than a bedroom, but there is a comfortable single bed and a comfy chair, and window onto our mostly quiet residential street. There is a closet and some shelves to put your clothes.
We are 8-10 minutes walk from Archway Tube which is the Northern Underground line. We are also close to several bus lines, so getting into central London (Soho, Leceister sq, Oxford Streed) takes about 20 minutes.
Some of the main attractions are that despite having a pretty tiny flat, we do have a small back garden that is nice to sit in when the weather is nice. Also we are a 10 minute walk to the beautiful Hampstead Heath Park and Waterlow Parks, and a smaller neighbourhood park, all of which both have spectacular views of London, and also 5 minutes from the historic and mysterious Highgate Cemetery where Karl Marx, George Eliot, Douglas Addams and Malcolm Mclaren are buried, among others! We are very well connected by transport to the city and we have a bicycle you are welcome to borrow (although it might need a service). There are health food and many other shops nearby. We are very close to Camden Town.
(My son speaks Greek because his other parent is Greek, so any Greek speakers will have a cool kid to talk to!)

This is an odd kind of house, with moon rituals occurring and queer dress up parties that we stream online, so expect the unexpected...
I can teach you yoga and meditation about once a week and I can teach you Tarot and read your cards. I have a lot of experience working with people in a therapeutic way and I love to talk to people about their lives. Over the years, I have hosted people from all over the world on couchsurfing, airbnb, workaway and other sites. You will get to live in a beautiful part of London and get to speak with and interact with me and my son who are native English speakers. I am American and he was born here so is native English! The dogs are really sweet and fun to be with, although they can also be intense. And you will have lots of free time, even enough for a part time job somewhere else or doing other work whilst you are here. And all in big interesting (even if a bit changed now!) metropolis of London!
Ce projet peut impliquer des enfants. Pour en savoir plus, consultez nos directives et conseils ici.
I welcome some help cleaning the fairly small flat and keeping it tidy, some things like fixing minor things or arranging for them to get fixed, some cooking (only if you like), some very minor gardening, dog walking, and some very minor assistance with work projects. Although my young son lives here and he is friendly; there would unlikely be any major child care responsibilities.
Jeffrey La Chiva Household!
Workaway Guest information!
We welcome you to our household and now provide you with this brief summary of the offerings and expectations of living with us for a while.
Members of Household:
Jeffrey aka La Chiva – parent, daddy and Storyteller
Jack – 13-year-old child
Medusa – miniature smooth dachshund
Arthur – standard wire-haired dachshund
Jasper – fish
This is a small 2-bedroom flat with a big living room where La Chiva lives and works. The front bedroom is yours and the back bedroom is my son Jack’s. We have meals, do yoga, watch things, perform rituals etc together in the live/work living room space. There is a small kitchen and bathroom. There is a back garden that is shared with the two flats upstairs, but we are on the ground floor, so have the most access to it. My living room space is private when my curtain is down.
My son Jack is with us every 4 nights on a rotation with his other parent who lives nearby, so when he is around, changes on a weekly basis.
Keys: You have your own set of keys to the house, and you must take good care of them.
Food: There is always fruit and bread to share, as well as oat milk and usually juice. There are coffee and a variety of tea. You are welcome to pretty much anything and you can also store a small amount of food in fridge or shelves as you find room. Keep in mind the kitchen space is very small!
Room: Your room is private but there are no locks on doors but the bathroom, and I also store a lot of things in your room and closet that I need access to sometimes. We will never enter your room without asking.
Things are crazy and ‘ecstatic’ in our queer household, but there is a sort of ritual-routine method to our madness. There is not really a whole 5 hours of work, certainly not every day. There is an expectation that you will eat with us most evenings, and possibly have an after-dinner chat, tarot reading or watch a film.
Here are the things that we would like you to do for and with us each week:
Sunday: If Jack is home, I will do Yoga and Meditation with him on Sunday mornings, but you are welcome to do it with me if he is not (there is not enough room for three bodies in the living room at one time!). We will all do the laundry together. We hang sheets, towels, and clothes up in the back garden or in the house, or we take them down to dry at the laundrette. Change the sheets on all the beds. We get a veg box that arrives on Sunday and I will usually make a big early dinner.
Monday: Please hoover (vacuum) and mop the floors in living room, hallway, bathroom, and kitchen and vacuum the common hallway just outside the door of our flat. If Jack is around, he (with your help) will gather the rubbish and recycling to put up onto the street. Most weekdays I record a podcast episode or record a video for my online spiritual artisanry work, so you would also usually help with this (up to 3 hours max). As usual, I will make dinner for us all to share.
Tuesday: I will do Yoga on my own and do my own thing generally, and you can too! So, it is a day off, but as usual, I will make dinner for us all to share.
Wednesday: Please dust and wipe, all the shelves and surfaces in kitchen, living room and bathroom. Most weekdays I record a podcast episode or record a video for my online spiritual artisanry work, so you would also usually help with this (up to 3 hours max). As usual, I will make dinner for us all to share.
Thursday: This morning you are welcome to join me for Yoga and meditation around 10 AM. Most weekdays I record a podcast episode or record a video for my online spiritual artisanry work, so you would also usually help with this (up to 3 hours max). As usual, I will make dinner for us all to share.
Friday: Please clean the bathroom, toilet (with bleach), bathtub, sink, shelves, and floor. Most weekdays I record a podcast episode or record a video for my online spiritual artisanry work, so you would also usually help with this (up to 3 hours max). As usual, I will make dinner for us all to share.
Saturday: Another day off, as I usually must work out or on my own, or I go to watch Jack play football. You are welcome to come watch too if I do!
-The above schedule is usual, but when the Full Moon or New Moon falls each month, it changes. Whenever the New Moon falls, we perform a special ritual in the living room, for which we need your help to perform and clean up afterwards; this is a clearing up ritual. On the Full Moon, we would often have a big meal, possibly guests or we might perform a live ritual online! The same goes for the equinoxes and solstices which we also consider to be holidays to celebrate with friends, food, and ritual performance. So, all ‘free days’ are contingent upon them not falling on the day of one of these celestial body holidays!
-I usually make dinner every day, but you are welcome to share in this if you like to cook.
Dogs: I mostly take care of the dogs and they spend most of their time with me, but they will really want to see and spend time with you too! I will take the dogs on a walk once a day, almost without exception. I sometimes take them one at a time or both together. I don’t let anyone else take them both together unless I am with you, because they very much have minds of their own! I will probably ask you to help me take one of them out, at least once a day. It is also VERY important, that every member of the household, clean up the Poo in the back garden, preferably as soon as it comes out of the dogs! I might ask you to run to the shop to get dog food sometimes.
Neighbours: We have lovely neighbours. At the top is our dear friend Bridie, an Irish Nanny in her 60s. And in the middle right above us are Graham and Anna, a couple who have two little girls under the age of 4, Aurelia and Emily. Bridie looks after children who are sometimes afraid of our dogs so when she is bringing children in it is important to keep the dogs inside.
It is a small double bedroom with a wardrobe for hanging things only, a comfy chair, some shelves, and a comfortable single bed. It is a private room with a window onto the street. Our flat is on the lower ground floor but gets plenty of light. The flat is in a building with two other flats above only, and nice neighbours. There is access to the back garden all the time. The bathroom is shared. We will eat evening meals together and sometimes I will need to go in the room to put things in storage etc, and there is a closet in there with cleaning supplies and linens. My son has his own room which is private of course. There are no locks on the bedroom doors.
There are loads of sites to see around London even if you don't want to be inside very much! There are shops for food and amenities nearby the flat and we are about 20-minutes from Oxford street by Underground but there are also many buses. We are near many beautiful outdoor spaces. There is just so much to do in London and you could explore in your free time and never get bored!

It is a good internet connection (not absolutely perfect at all times!) and you have a private room. There is a chair and a table. It would be good to know beforehand if you have set hours that you would want to be working in your room.
Every day a little bit, but no more than 5 hours a day, and with two days completely off per week.
