** Are you are physically fit? Looking for a private accommodation for your workaway stay with more private time than most hosts offer? Like to learn new skills and see a job through? Are happy to do some of the more mundane and tedious jobs in-between some unique and fun stuff? THIS COULD BE THE PERFECT FIT FOR YOUR WORKAWAY EXPERIENCE! **

Hello to anyone that is My name is Richard, I live here in southern Spain with my wife Annemarie in a part cave house/part old stone house. We emigrated here from the UK in 2019, are both English and are learning Spanish as we go (poco a poco).

First things first. we have friends who have been using workaways for many years, but this is our first time and we have borrowed a a total of 7 of their workaways (at the time of writing this). So we have some experience and they have all been good experiences. So we believe it is time to get our own workaways :)

I am an artist, designer, illustrator, dabble in photography, animation, game design (cards and video) and other creative things. My wife Annemarie is retired and spends her day enjoying our home and garden which she keeps tidy and clean with the help of me and any guests that stay.

Due to a long-term back injury, we need help renovating our cave houses and beautifying our guest apartment. This involves some gardening, scraping of paint, wheelbarrowing, shovelling, mixing, painting, and much more. For the more skilled workawayer, or those who can research and learn and want to become more skilled, cement, bricklaying, plastering, some cave digging, wood work, and lots of other ideas I have floating around on my google drive, pinterest and in my head.

There are other projects and experiments I want to get on with and have a go at for the right person depending on your skill set. These include large wall murals, small artwork, work with clay (right from the earth),

So long as you are polite, tidy, respectful of us and the place we live in, and can see a project through (with as much help as I can give), we are happy to have you and look forward to meeting you!

    • You will need to be able to look after yourself and entertain yourself to some degree. We are settled in our home and routines, and a lot of them revolve around our dogs, so we will not be able to entertain and taxi you around all the time. We will be here to chat and spend some time together as often as possible, and during your working hours I can spend as much or little time as needed helping or supporting you, or give you room to work, whatever suits you.

    • We will not be able to taxi you around often. I am more than happy to take you somewhere local at weekends, and we can all go down into the town with our two little dogs for a drink and tapas at least once a week.

    • For the right person, who is the right fit to see a project through, and if you are on an extended stay with us, there may be opportunities to visit places a bit further away as we have still yet to explore Andalucía much.

    • We will be respectful of your privacy and expect you to do the same, BUT please do know you can ask us for anything you need, or if you need any help or just to chat, ring our bell or message me and we will do what we can.

    • Our diet is best described as plant-based as we move closer and closer to a vegan diet. We have a lot of vegan and vegetarian family and friends, and I love the challenge and variety of cooking for them and us. Although you will need to be able and willing to prepare all your own means, I would also love to share some meals and cooking time with you, to learn and swap some ideas and recipes.

We are an English couple, living in rural Andalucia in southern Spain. We have friends of several nationalities, and live in a small but busy rural village with many shops, bars, a public pool in summer, a nearby lake with an inland beach (clothed and nudist sections), and some lovely bars and restaurants.

There is a market every Tuesday here in the village, and every other village in the area on various days. There are local groups and events that take place, some regular, some seasonal. Walking groups, keep fit, music, language learning, pub quizzes, or there is expansive nature and seclusion if you prefer.

My wife is retired and other than keeping our home and garden as beautiful as possible, I try not to ask her for help with DIY projects.

I am an artist, primarily a pencil and digital artist. I also do graphic design, illustration, video game art, music production and 3D modelling and design. Any of which I am happy to share with you or learn from you.

We have friends nearby who are involved with many projects and crafts from soap making, mala's, other artists, ecological projects, cave house restorations and much more.

So there are many ways to find cultural, local and artistic skills to learn and share.

If you would like to learn more about pencil drawing, or any digital art or design, I am happy to help you learn or improve, or just to try things out. My wife is an excellent knitter, if you want her to teach you or show you some different ways of doing things, or if you have some methods or styles to teach Annemarie, she would be happy to have a knit and natter.

Maybe you enjoy films, music, gaming. Once we are all comfortable with eachother we can invite you down for some cinema nights with drinks and food and maybe invite a few friends. We have a cave cinema room with 8 seats, but we might not be able to do it every day as like everyone, we have other things to think about and get on with and not every day is a good day. We are not excessively sociable people, but we are not hermits either. We live a fairly private life with a small close circle of friends. We do not have the finances to go out eating and drinking often and so enjoy each others company and home cooked meals.

We value open minded, trustworthy, honesty and politeness above all else in our friends. If you are just coming for the accommodation, to travel to a new area and get out and enjoy nature, or if you want to keep yourself to yourself and enjoy your own company and privacy, that is all fine by us.

    • Learn about cave houses
    • Experience life in a small rural, inland village in southern Spain
    • Share in your love of creativity and art
    • Produce artwork which we will cherish for as long as possible
    • Possibly help us learn some of your language, and you some of ours
    • Share family, local and national recipes and cooking method's
    • Potential to integrate into local groups and events
    • Potential to learn pencil drawing and digital artwork skills with me

Lots of room for your own time to find ourself, loose yourself and enjoy yourself!

Currently we need general help with renovation and construction in and around our cave houses and apartment. The level of work required will depend on your skills and experience and anything you learn as we go. There will certainly we lots of jobs for any skill level including scraping old plaster and paint off walls, painting, mixing and applying plaster, moving rubble, some gardening and clearing of foliage and helping out with projects and chores me and my wife are undertaking.

If you have any skills and knowledge of construction, renovation, decorating then there are many other jobs you can help with.

In the future we also have plans for large wall paintings, some wall sculpting using various materials, some other unusual and fairly unique projects indoors and outside (depending on the weather).

We will aim to provide you with any necessary safety and protective equipment, but you need to let us know if you have any concerns and

The apartment you will be staying in is also our source of income. We will be closing it for the period a workaway stays. So you will have a 1 bedroom holiday apartment to yourself. During your stay this is your home, we will not be just walking in or sharing any facilities with you. Laundry can be done in our washing machine, and the sun terrace area is shared, but we will give you as much privacy as you like.

Me, my wife Annemarie and our 2 little dogs live in a cave house on street level, and on the front of the cave house we have an old stone house. You would be staying upstairs in our guest apartment. It has a living room, kitchen/dining room with table and cooking facilities, bathroom with a shower, a double bedroom. It is a self contained apartment and although there are stairs from inside our house, there are not used when we have guests for yours and our privacy. The apartment is accessed for you via stairs outside, so you would have total privacy so you can come and go as you please so long as you are sure to lock up.

We live in a quiet cave neighbourhood, with around 4 habited houses and 10 uninhabited or seasonal housed for local Spanish families. So most of the time it is a typical sleepy but semi-rural village ambiance. This means you might hear a dog barking, or nightingales twittering through the night, or sometimes, neighbours or the village celebrating a fiesta or private event. Or you might hear and maybe smell a small herd of goats wandering around outside the house. If you have trouble sleeping, we can provide ear plugs, but there is nothing we can do about the local ambiance, and the majority of the time you will just hear crickets any way.

Groceries will be provided for you to cook with, they will not be overly lavish but will meet any dietary requirements you have. If you wish to buy extra , or more expensive food, there are shops and a weekly market here in the village. The nearest small shop is a 5 minute walk, the slightly larger shops and bars are a 20 minute walk. You will be required to prepare your own meals. But it is possible we can share some meals too, to taste and learn some of each others cooking. The market, which sells a lot of fresh fruit and veg, is every Tuesday.

In your time off, the area is full of natural beauty. If you like photography, painting, walking, swimming and nature, you will not be bored. But there are also many bars, restaurants and shops in our little but busy village. And many other village a short drive away.

If you like solitude, you will be staying in a furnished apartment above our home, so you can entertain yourself with sunshine, plenty of books (mostly English language), relaxation, or explore the village or countryside.

I will be able to drive you around local areas at weekends. And we can go down into the village for a drink and tapas or down to the lake at least once a week.

You will only be required to work 20-25 hours a week. This can be over 4, 5 or 6 days a week, its entirely up to you, we are flexible if you are the right person, with the right skills, attitude and personality, so long as you see at least one project through to the end, we will be more than happy.

You will be required to keep the apartment clean and tidy, and tidy up after each days work.

We require someone friendly, courteous, tidy and able to work alone. But also someone able to take advice and criticism as I know how I would like work done, and sometimes I may not agree with your suggestions.

Non smoker preferred! Strictly no smoking in the house!

We have dogs in our house, and there are cats living outside (Do not encourage the cats onto the balcony and never inside the apartment). So you must be respectful of our animals, home, and us.

You will not be allowed to have guests in the apartment at any time without a specific agreement from us. It is our private home and we need you to respect that.
