Hey!
My name is Lisa, I’m 33 years old and from Germany. I’m extremely excited to be traveling to Oceania and other beautiful spots in the gorgeous world beginning my journey travelling to Australia in January 2020 with my boyfriend Damian, 33 years old.
We don’t have exactly travel plans yet, except to see where the adventure takes us, so we travel with an open mind, flexibility and spontaneity!

This is our first time on this side of the world and our first experiences with workaway, but not our first time volunteering!

Lisa has been an avid and passionate volunteer in diverse communities for many years! From community children work, volunteering at a café with disabled people, canteen kitchen work, to supporting people with disabilities, volunteering with children and elderly people and working as waitress for the catering on many great and small celebrations.

Damian is a kindergarten teacher and qualified social education worker and a passionate Goalkeeper and he teaches children in goalkeeping.

We have an immense love for the diverse beauty of humanity. We love challenges and we want to learn, we have so much to learn!
We seek to understand and to learn the economic, political and environmental context of our host culture.
We want to develop and share friendships. We want to share life with people; to share cultures, ways of life, ideas, conversations, laughter, good times & vibes, experiences and adventures.
We want to give something back to the world, starting with a smile.
We both have a huge desire to fitness & every kind of movement.
We are open-minded, passionate, hard worker, fast learner, adaptable, eager, open-hearted, kind, honest, sensitive & adventurer! With a compassionate, easy going, humble, patient & positive attitude!

We love exploring new places and getting off the beaten path!

We love the beach, the bush, forests, rivers, cities, deserts, mountains, the sky, the stars.

We appreciate the beauty in the little things and seeing beauty in everyday life and the nature.

We love the sunshine and riding bicycles.

We love music & dancing!

We love and take any chance to get active and creative, we love to take photos, cook, read, experimenting and just doing sports overall.

Most of all we live for the present moment.
We are passionate about life and we are excited and eager to infect people with our passion and movement to grow involved in local communities, volunteer, build friendships, make meaningful connections, share and to learn & we can’t wait to hear from you!

We were so lucky to stay at Judy&Steve’s place in their home and the place during the lockdown. Thank you so much to Judy&Steve, and to their very good friend Drew, for letting us be a part of your family! We were the happiest people to be in such a wonderful family. We were supposed to be there for just a short time, but ended up staying for two… read more whole months! We could not have dreamed of a better place to be locked down.

The many different jobs we did were sometimes physical, but never too hard or repetitive. They always made sure that we had a variety of things to do so that we didn't get bored, and a lot of the work we did together as well: harvested apples, pears, blueberries, different vegetables, weeded, did gardening, painted, cleaned, etc!

Every day was different. We learned a lot during that time, especially about different plants, fruits/vegetables, as well as caring for chickens and how to rebuild the chicken house with handmade mud. We helped every morning, and it was so nice seeing at the very end what you can accomplish in two months together.

The property offers a lot of space; it is close to the ocean and there are great walks and bike tour options around. In our 8-person bubble, we felt so welcomed and at home; so much so that it was really hard to leave at the end. Judy&Steve and Drew and their family and friends are truly amazing people. They are so kindhearted and fun!

We had so many special moments with this family; we got to meet their son’s cute children, as well as Steve and Judy’s friends. They made the best lunches (always a fresh sourdough sandwich with various homemade toppings) & dinner which we had together. We also sometimes prepared food, and it was such a pleasure to cook for them and enjoy food together. In the morning we always enjoyed a fresh coffee together, and Steve showed me how to work on the coffee machine and how to make a flat white.

We also loved our comfortable little house (with our own chimney and fireplace!) that we stayed in.

And we always loved the chats we had, and the fact that they were open to talk about any topic. They shared so much great stories about their experiences, so we really got a great insight into the Kiwi-living. Judy showed me how to knit a beautiful beanie and Steve showed us how to make the best cheesecake with their own lemons ever! Such a great lesson and super yummy. In our free time, Judy&Steve took us for walks to the ocean or gave us a ride to the supermarket.
Their house has a very warm and chilled-out atmosphere and the garden is beautiful with a lot of lovely details.

They included us into their life, but we feel that everyone still had enough privacy even in special lockdown time. We love their way of living, how they are as a family, and the fact that they care about reduction of waste and living in and with the nature. We already miss them and thank them for making our second workaway experience and stay in New Zealand absolutely wonderful! If you have the chance to stay with them, go for it! Thanks for hosting us, thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
