~Note May 2021: While we do host short term volunteers, we are at the moment also looking for long term workawayers to take care of the project from mid/end May 2021. Ideally they would stay a minimum of 3 months and have experience in Permaculture, sustainable lifestyle, community living and building (house renovation and furniture) and don’t mind leading the daily tasks that need to be done at the project. Please reach out to us!~
Come join us to share your skills and be free!
Our idea: Creating a place of exchange for sustainable living! With the help of workawayers, we want to develop our project to one day host courses and retreats in various areas - Permaculture, survival skills, healing, art and yoga. We are currently at the very beginning stages.
We are a young project with the vision of spreading Permaculture and sustainable knowledge and techniques to the local community, while providing a space for like minded people to come together to create something positive. Besides Permaculture, we are into healthy living and Yoga. We want to create a space that people can come to for the exchange of arts, music, and healing. We want to one day be an education hub and ecohostel that hosts retreats and teaches sustainable livelihood skills.
To us it’s important to eat healthy foods, live a holistic & sustainable lifestyle, to grow our own meals, build our own furniture and create a space we love - that sustains itselfs, spreads positive energy and grows its own medicine and superfoods.
That’s how far we got:
We built two superadobe earthbag domes that unfortunately had some flaws and are in need of renovation. We are now reviving our project after a period of inactivity, so please be aware that we are only now re-starting the gardens, and there are some major renovations and set-ups to be done.
Come join us to contribute your skills and love in exchange for accommodation and community! We are unable to pay for volunteers food at the moment, so please be aware that you need to contribute to food expenses (cooking is usually done communal). Learn Swahili and the local ways, immerse yourself in the crystal blue waters of Kizimkazi, and fulljoy our peaceful spice island Zanzibar!
You will be hosted in simple living conditions in our Superadobe-Earthbag domes and help to develop the place by caring for the garden and buildings, making furniture and further constructions, beautifying with art and installations and sharing any skills you have! There are specific projects we need done, but we are open to your ideas of what you can contribute. We are well connected to other great local initiatives and Permaculture projects on the island. KARIBUNI!!
Who we are looking for:
* any age, nationality, gender
* Open minded and spiritual people
* People with experience in Permaculture and sustainable living skills

Spend time on a beautiful island others come to for holidays, learn the local Muslim influenced culture, learn Kiswahili, learn about Permaculture and sustainable living :)
Ecological building construction, permaculture design and garden work, compost and compost toilet, carpentry, art installations/painting, teaching skill courses to the local community, social media and advertising, dealing with tourists
Specific projects we want to get going: Compost toilet, outdoor sleeping area, healing hut, magical grove
Swahili (Kiswahili): Fluido
You will be living in very simple living conditions inside the domes that have some issues of water in the walls and are in need of renovation. If you prefer, you can always sleep outside on our big balcony watching the stars, or in the garden, or in the communal area.
At our place you will get to detox from the crazy world. No electricity, no mirror, not much use of devices. There is a shared water toilet and an outdoor shower. There is NO ELECTRICITY SUPPLY (only few solar lights at night), meals are cooked communal. Please bring bedsheets/sleeping bag, a head torch/solar lamps and a power bank & solar charger to charge your devices (otherwise you will need to go to a nearby lodge).
The ocean is a 10 minute walk away and we recommend going swimming at least once a day ;)
Another 10-30min walks are different size of sweet water caves for your exploration!
To teach Kizimkazi village, you have to walk about 20min.
Our land is in a very quiet part of Kizimkazi, our property being surrounded by bushland. Nevertheless, Kizimkazi is home to a number of different interesting projects that also take a holistic approach - theres a kindergarden close to our house, another children’s project with tree house library, and an eco lodge within the larger strecthed out area of Kizimkazi.
KARIBUNI!! You are warmly welcome to continue dreaming, visioning and manifesting with us.
Zanzibar is a very Muslim island, please be mindful when it comes to dressing appropriately in public (knees and shoulders covered) and adhere to absolutely no drug consumption in public. On our premises we live a free and respectful life though.
Kizimkazi is known for its dolphin location and beautiful coral reefs - do these trips mindfully though. There is an NGO for sustainable dolphin tours, please go with them.
The village is small and quiet, about 15min walk away with the basics things available in the shops.
Small lodges are close by, one of our old friends being close by beautiful Promised Land Lodge (for creature comforts such as electricity, pool, bar & food, and possibly wifi if you ask very kindly or order lots).
