Welcome to the South of Brazil, and the home of one of the 7 natural wonders of the world. My name is Joe, and I run a small hostel with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in a quiet leafy neigbourhood in Foz do Iguaçu, half an hour from Iguazu Falls.
I have a head full of ideas to make my hostel even better, and I would like people to come and help me do so, while exchanging ideas and knowledge with our staff and guests.

I grew up in Foz do Iguaçu and have a good knowledge of the city and the region, which I am happy to share with volunteers. You can eat and learn to cook some typical Brazilian food, including some of my favourites: vaca atolada, arroz carreteiro, and the famous Brazilian churrasco (BBQ)! Our staff speak Portuguese, Spanish, English and basic Guarani (a language of Paraguay), and are happy to help you improve your language skills!
Volunteers will live and work with us, help running and improving the hostel! This will include occasionally watching the hostel when other staff need to pop out, house keeping, showing our guests a good time, and helping set-up some of the hostels new projects. We have a large garden area, and one of our projects is to make and maintain a vegetable patch. We have also started setting up a cinema area, and are thinking of installing a ping-pong table and a bar! Alongside this, we hope to learn about the languages and culture of volunteers.

One or two people will stay in a private room with a bunk bed. You will have access to all the hostel's facilities, which include a fully-equipped kitchen, brick BBQ, high-speed Wi-Fi, cable TV, games consoles, sofas, hammocks, and even fresh tropical fruits (mango, jabuticaba, ciriguela and pitanga) from our trees (when in season)! You will be welcome to join other staff in cooking Brazilian and international food together.
Foz do iguaçu is an excellent base for people who like nature and nightlife, and has a border with both Argentina and Paraguay. The main local attraction is the infamous Iguazu falls, which people generally spend multiple days exploring on both the Brazilian and Argentinian sides. There are also many more less-known smaller waterfalls in the area that can be explored for free. The area is fantastic for people who like biking, and there are many excellent mountain bike trails nearby. There is a bike that you can borrow too! The Itaipu hydroelectric dam is the world's largest in terms of energy production, and it makes for a special visit. The bird park is a beautiful biological reserve where birds (many of which have been rescued) have huge enclosures to fly aroud freely. The city is full of great bars for those that like a good night out. Visit the point where Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina meet, and cross Iguaçu River to visit the Misiones province in Argentina, or the Paraná River to visit Paraguay. It's hard to get bored living here in Foz de Iguaçu, whatever you're into!
