Hello! I am about to graduate with my my masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling & Family and Marriage Counseling. I am looking to spend some time traveling to learn and immerse myself into another culture, to continue my studies independently, and to meet and get to know some amazing people! I am a big people person and am willing to do physically demanding tasks. I have played sports my whole life, played division 1 lacrosse in college, and workout every day. I worked on a farm for my first work away experience on the big island where I learned about agriculture and did physically demanding farm labor for 6 hours a day, 5 days a week. I am very open-minded and a quick and hard learner.

I love singing/songwriting, hiking, and exploring. I am a movie junkie and a big Marvel nerd. I love journaling and taking videos as well. I can provide videos of the experience and put a small movie together about it at the end of my stay for them to do whatever they want with if they desire!

I did my first workaway experience here last April and it was everything I could've asked for and more.

Bonnie and Bacci are wonderful and were very accommodating. You live in a cabin with all of the basics and if there is something you are missing, Bonnie is very kind to replace it. Bonnie's description of work expectations is very accurate.… read more They provide weekly food such as rice, beans, peanut butter, lentils, salt and pepper, etc. and then you get to eat directly from the farm which is so so awesome. You use a compost toilet for bathroom needs and there is a super cool outdoor shower that Bacci built that has hot water (be prepared to buy all eco-friendly and unscented shower products). If you are respectful, a hard worker, and want to learn about farming and sustainability (and have fun exploring!!!!) than this is a great place for you.

Bonnie is very passionate about gardening and you get to learn a lot from her during the scheduled garden hour. Besides that, she is busy prepping and planning up at their house for the farmers market. Again, if you are interested in learning about gardening, sustainability, etc. she will answer all of your questions during the garden hour! She is super knowledgeable and happy to share and teach you about everything you want to know.

Bacci will show you your tasks every day and work with you. He is very kind and patient and makes you feel super comfortable! I was a little intimidated of some of the tasks I knew we had to do, because I have never done them before (banana tree pruning, mac nut husking, etc) but he explains everything super well and again is super patient and encouraging! He made the work really fun and has a very welcoming energy about him. If you like SImon & Garfunkel or Star Trek, you guys will hit it off!

Both Bonni and Bacci work the farmers market. I couldn't attend because I wasn't fully vaccinated at the time- but my friend that went every Saturday LOVED IT and would always bring back super yummy treats that Bonnie had made extra of.

The one thing I will warn about is you really do need transportation besides hitch hiking or a bike if you actually want to explore. The other awesome girl that did it and I only hitch hiked the first week and did A LOT of hiking and it took a while to get to and from places (especially after you do manual labor all day and your body is pretty tired). So I would say, be prepared financially to rent a car (not a moped).

The area has endless places to explore and there are cabin journals with recommendations from past workers about every place you can go on the Island. I wish I could've seen EVERYTHING and am so grateful for the month I spent there. Thanks Bonnie and Bacci!!
