Hey! My name is Maya and I’m from the UK!

Before I went to university I allowed myself to have a taste of the backpacker lifestyle and unsurprisingly fell in love with it. I've traveled to lots of European countries as well as Sri Lanka, Thailand and Cambodia. I am now travelling around Central America!

I did my first workaway in at the end of 2022 in an amazing hostel in Barcelona. I was there for a month and loved it! Roles included: taking guests on day activities; cooking family style meals; hosting drinking games followed by taking guests to the bars and clubs; and night shifts. I loved being able to make sure guests had an amazing time in Barcelona and how everyone felt like a big family. I'm super buzzed to find my next workaway adventure in Central America!

Experiencing new cultures, exploring new places and meeting new people is something that I find exhilarating and is something that, for me, is very important to experience in life. This is why I decided to join workaway as it will allow me to have these important experiences!

I’m a very sociable and confident person and love exchanging stories and travel trips with people I meet. I would also say I’m very open minded which means I am usually down for anything and everything and love learning new skills and acquiring more knowledge!

My current job is in the charity industry so I can speak to people with ease and I am also very personable.

I have over 4 years of hospitality experience and also 3 years of retail experience so I am very good at interacting with all types of people. This experience has also made me very resilient and also patient as some customers can obviously be difficult to deal with.

I have housekeeping experience which means I know how to deep clean bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchens and that I know what cleaning products should be used for what. From being a housekeeper I’ve learnt how to work quickly and also that people can be gross so I can now deal with cleaning quite a lot of gross stuff ahaha!

I have been told by friends and family that I am a pretty good chef and know how to make quite a few different dishes!

I’ve done quite a lot of fundraising in the past few years so I know how to organise and put on on different events! I also was part of my university football society and during that I had to organise events/nights out.

I am also a really quick learner and I’m open to learn any new skill that anyone is willing to teach!

I love playing football and I have played for the last 15 years, I also love watching it!

At the start of this year I started learning how to DJ and it's such a fun thing to learn. I love trying different mixes and seeing how they turn out.

I love being in nature and going on long walks, whether that be by the coast, mountains or woods! As well as being in nature I love exploring different cities and seeing what I can find!

I am very interested in living a sustainble lifestyle which can sometimes be a challenge. I try and eat a mostly plant based diet and I also buy most of my clothes from second hand and vintage shops. I love going to second hand and vintage shops and seeing what I can find!
