  • Description

Hi! We are two friends, Hannah (22) and Katie (23) and we have both just graduated from University of Manchester studying biosciences. We are looking for workaway experiences where we can meet new people, learn about cultures and get stuck in with projects!

We met on a year-long placement in L'Aquila, Italy where we worked in a research lab and spent weekends hiking in mountains, lake swimming and exploring nearby towns. We both enjoy small-scale farming which we have done with volunteer groups in Manchester and on previous workaways.

We feel really lucky to be able to experience different cultures and lifestyles and to learn from the people around us so hopefully you will be happy to have us as your workawayers!

Currently we are both in south Australia beginning our years working holiday visa.

More details about my language interests
We are very happy to teach English to all ages as we have experience in teaching and helping others with English from our time in Italy. We would love to improve our Italian as we studied the language whilst we were in Italy for one year but having a fully immersive experience would be brilliant.

Help outdoors (gardening, diy, building, maintenance etc.): We both thoroughly enjoy being outdoors and being immersed in nature and we don't hesitate to get our hands dirty! On previous workaways and when volunteering in Manchester we gained experience in small scale farming such as weeding, composting, planting and picking fruit and vegetables. We're both confident with painting walls and some woodwork experience as we built skirting boards for a small house.

Help around the house (cooking, cleaning, general tasks): We both moved away from home very young so we have many years' experience with domestic tasks around the home. We like to get stuck in the kitchen and on previous workaways have been very willing to help prepare meals and clean up afterwards. We have also both worked long-term cleaning jobs in the past and feel very confident in these skills.

English Language Teaching: We are native English speakers and would be more than happy to help with your English language ability. We have years of experience as Maths and Chemistry tutors in English schools. This experience would translate very well into English language tutoring so we think we could be a great help! We would also love to improve our Italian if that would be something you're interested in :)

Above all else, we are willing to learn: If there is something you need that we don't have loads of experience in then we are more than happy to pick it up and learn a new skill. We are enthusiastic and not afraid of getting our hands dirty!

  • What else ...

We are both passionate dancers and performed in a dance show in Italy together, as well as in the UK separately.

We are interested in sustainability in terms of reducing our climate footprint by of making better choices for the environment. We enjoy learning about sustainable living from small scale farming and lifestyle tips which we can bring into our daily lives.

We particularly enjoy social events such as dinners where we can connect with people and share life stories. We are both warm and welcoming people and find ease in getting along with others.
