  • Description

Hey! I’m Sophie, a wild-at-heart girl from Yorkshire, UK. I love nothing more than being in nature, be that taking a long hike, wild swimming, cycling, camping, drinking tea or reading.

I’ve been living in Spain for the past four years, working as an English teacher, and love being around children and their boundless imaginations. For the past year I’ve been based in Bilbao, enjoying its mountains and beautiful coastline. I’m passionate about the power of nature-based education; this year I undertook a course in forest school methodology in San Sebastian, and I’m keen to utilise this experience and create my own project. Now I’d like to plant my feet somewhere with a vibrant alternative community, dedicated to sustainable living, and for this reason, my travels are currently taking me to Orgiva.

I spent a couple of years travelling in France, Portugal, India and Nepal, volunteering on various organic farms and eco retreats, and found these experiences deeply inspiring, instilling in me a great desire to live in harmony with nature and to learn more practical land-based skills. Here I began to learn about permaculture principles, and worked on composting, seed sowing, making beds and swales and other gardening-related bits and bobs like harvesting, weeding, pruning, mulching. I also assisted with some eco-construction and cob-building, as well as cooking tasty plant-based meals for the volunteer community and general maintenance tasks. When I was living in Madrid, I was a regular volunteer in my wonderful local community garden. I’m now seeking the opportunity to make a longer term commitment to a project where I can develop my skills in permaculture design, and learn more about forest gardening, medicinal herbalism, eco-construction and renewable energy systems.

I’m a positive, open-minded and caring person, who puts their all into their work, and love meeting new people to share stories, ideas and adventures! I’m more than happy to help with language learning and childcare. I'm a great lover of yoga, and intend to study my 200 hour teacher training in the coming year- I’d love to share this passion with others and develop my practice and understanding. It's my dream to weave together these interests, and in the future develop my own piece of land along permaculture principles, and to create my own small forest school, yoga centre and community garden.

I would love to hear from you if you’re interested in having me on board your project!

I would really love to improve my Spanish through conversation exchange- I have an intermediate level but make a lot of mistakes, and it would be great for someone to correct me! I'd also love to pick up French again (of which sadly, I remember very little.) I have four years of English teaching experience, and have a fun and dynamic approach so am always happy to help with your English learning!
