Description
Hey! We're Rowan and Tayler. Brit & Kiwi from the Gold Coast, Australia, traveling around the UK for a while, and keen to get hands-on with some projects!

A little about us -

Rowan - I'm 30 years old, a freelance Voiceover Artist, and I left the UK a little over 4 years ago to travel Australia, where I met the wonderful Tayler! I served roughly 7 years in the UK Royal Air Force in logistics before going overseas, and during my time abroad I've gained a wide variety of skills through workaways, other volunteering roles and a large array of different jobs! These include everything from farming (Oyster, Garlic, Turmeric, Animal Welfare etc), gardening (weeding, mulching, planting etc), fencing (Wire & Metal fencing for Cattle) and other roles along the way which includes hospitality, concreting, firewood cutting, extensive power tool usage and much more! I also gained fitness & personal training qualifications over in Australia, and happy to help in that field if you'd like!
I'm extremely eager to try my hand at new things and connect with hosts and other workawayers through teamwork, conversations, cooking and entertaining!

Tayler - I'm 26 years old and was born in New Zealand before moving to the Gold Coast, Australia at a young age where I grew up. Over the years I've enjoyed painting and drawing as well as hiking, snorkeling, rock climbing and making friends. I've had many hospitality jobs including barista, waitressing, bar work, cocktail making and more. I started my tattoo apprenticeship in 2017 and have been a full-time professional tattoo artist for 6 years, enjoying many styles including colourwork, fineline, neo trad, realism and more. Rowan and I met 2 years ago now and have embarked on a journey to the UK to broaden our horizons while learning and growing! I am a good cook receiving many compliments on my potato salad, pesto pasta and guacamole and have a basic knowledge of gardening and using a variety of hand tools. I'm not quite as well versed as Rowan at physical jobs but I am more than willing to get my hands dirty and give anything a go while giving 100%. I am very keen to take on any art projects big or small having done murals and commissions in the past and love anything crafty. Im so excited to learn and try new things, meet new people and have some fun!

Just, wow! What an absolute pleasure to stay with Anna & Jannik for 2 weeks!

Starting with the most important part -

The people - Anna & Jannik immediately made us feel more than just guests in their home, and it took us no time at all to feel like we have new friends for life. Anna gave us a video call prior to coming, and through this we met… read more a very warm, kind and spiritual person that we were excited to connect with further. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Anna and the other lovely Workawayer Caro, and then met Jannik later in the day. From day one we laughed constantly, telling stories, sharing skills and creating wonderful memories through meals and other activities which will stay with us for a long, long time. Anna & Jannik are very knowledgeable in different skills and are more than happy to teach what they know! Despite having their own busy lives, they found plenty of occasions to take us around the area on hikes, out for meals, dancing and more, and we really felt their genuine interest in making our experience as joyful as possible. The positive and family-oriented environment they created really gave us the pleasure to help them build their property alongside them.

The tasks - Overall, the tasks varied from tasks that specifically suited our skills, to tasks that required helping and thinking together to overcome challenges. Despite some rain and snow, there was always something to do inside or outside the house! Some days could be longer, some could be shorter, and tasks were always discussed together in the morning which was a fantastic way to prepare for the day. We learned loads of new skills including basic carpentry, gardening, and even a little about foraging! Every day brought a new experience, and helping alongside Anna and/or Jannik was a fantastic opportunity to learn in a comfortable setting. We never felt pressured into doing anything that made us uneasy!

The home - The property is incredibly beautiful! You find a real sense of calm and peace, away from the busyness of city life. Outdoors is the river (nice and cold to challenge yourself with a dip if it's sunny!), beautiful places to read or meditate, and enchanting forests right on the doorstep. Indoors, the house is large and still developing day by day into a beautiful place to stay. We found it so cozy, with more than enough space to be alone or social. There was plenty of furniture lying around the house that we used to make our bedroom our own (suggestions for any improvements around the place were always encouraged!), and a dedicated yoga area in which we met most mornings to prepare for the day in a positive way.

Everything else - We were more than happy respecting the rules of no alcohol or meat in the house, and I can honestly say it was a life-changing experience to give these things up during our time, especially the alcohol! We left the Workaway with so much focus, positivity and clarity for our future plans. Group yoga by Anna most mornings was extremely beneficial from a physical and spiritual point of view, and also helped improved self-discipline and focus to take into the days ahead! Campfires, hikes, deep conversation, black forest cake.... long meditations, salsa dancing, movie nights, lake swims...just a few incredible other experiences we shared together!

I can't overstate how hard it was to leave such wonderful hosts and the beautiful surroundings we had come to love. We really hope to visit again in the future, or have them over to visit us, be it in 1 year or 10years... Germans always meet twice!!

Incredible stay. From the very minute I arrived to the last I felt completely at home. I needed an escape for a couple of weeks and this amazing family took me in on very short notice. Rowan is an excellent worker. He is a very quick learner, good at working with others, has a good eye for safety and always provides thoughtful constructive suggestions for doing things better. Rowan is fun to be with and a good house guest always contributing to the house tasks.
