Description
Hola! My name is Sabine and in Germany I am studying to become a teacher. Currently I am doing a semestre abroad at a University in Spain after which I will have a few weeks time before I will have to go back home the end of February. I would love to spend this time somewhere in Spain to collect new experiences, meet new people and keep practising Spanish! After finishing school in 2016 I already spent a year travelling with workaway and do not want to miss the experiences I made!

I love helping to learn as much as possible so I am open to every kind of task. I am very experienced in handling horses because I started riding when I was 8 years old. Furthermore I really love all kinds of animals and working outside is great fun for me. I also enjoy spending time with children, playing with them and doing creative activities. As I am giving extra lessons to students for many years now, and I am studying to become a teacher I am able to help them with their homework or teach them languages as well. One of my hobbies is practicing languages so am looking forward to meeting native speakers and talk to them and I am open-minded to explore a different country and culture.

It is now half a year ago that I stayed with these wonderful people for about four months. It was my first time as a workawayer and it was great.
The place where their farm is is amazing, it is literally a small paradise in the mountains, and every day you have the green of the pine trees, the blue of the sky and the sea and from the veranda you… read more have a breathtaking view over the near town Tarifa, the street of Gibraltar, the mounains... On a good day you can even look towards Morocco and the African coast. It is just amazing to see all the different landscapes in this natural park, including its beautiful and still original beaches without big hotels.
Within the borders of this park, all the animals live free which means they go in to the mountain to search for water and food by themselves, it is a pleasure to see horses that happy. As a result of how they are kept the horses are very calm, have an amazing character and very individual personalities. I have never seen horses that even-tempered and safe in where they are going, you could completely trust them and I still miss all of them a lot, it was a joy to work with them!
The work might be physically hard sometimes, but it was very reasonable and we did everything with joy and fun. The best part was helping with the horses, feeding them in the morning and evening, preparing them for the routes, joining the guide Paco on the tours, helping with the translation and in general making sure that every guest had a good time on the ranch. But also helping in the kitchen, in the house, in the garden, with the harvest of vegetable, with some general building work and everythingelse that had to be done was part of our stay. And every time the horses and the stunning nature made up for hours of work and waiting on the beach for the horses to come back.
The family is very nice, you have to get to know them! Victoria is a wonderful cook, her Paella is just great and she was like a mum to us! Paco is doing the tours and even though he doesn´t speak much English he is great with the guests and he definitely loves his horses, they all do. Sandra is the happiest person I ever met, she always thinks positive and somehow is able to manage everything. All the other people of the family and those I met in the village were very friendly as well and I will always keep them in my heart, especially little Victor who is the cutest child on earth!
I have so many good memories of my time in Betis and together with the other volunteers I had a great time, I learned so much about Andalucia especially on the great trail that I will never forget ;) I improved my Spanish, met so many wonderful people who helped me to become more self-confident, stayed so many hours with the amazing and beautiful horses and learned to value the simple rural life including getting the water for cooking from a spring in the mountains.
I miss you all very much and hope to see you again soon!! Please cuddle the dog Piter and all the horses for me!! All the best for the future!!
