Description
Hello everyone. I’m a retired nurse and, together with my husband, we’re building a farm in southern Colombia that aims to be self-sufficient and environmentally friendly.
Our daily routine revolves around planting lemon, cocoa and banana trees first in pots and then in the ground. We also have chickens and will soon have pigs.
The 170m² house, built in 2023, meets all standards (hot and cold water), with 110V electricity, solar power and Starlink internet. The cuisine is French-style, using produce available in southern Colombia.
Our leisure activities centre on yoga, meditation, reading and interacting with the local community.

3 Activities:
1) Yoga, Sophrology, meditation, relaxation
Every morning we practice yoga, sophrology, meditation, and relaxation (one or more). Alexandra is a nurse and clinical sophrologist.
2) Sharing knowledge about medicinal plants, food crops, green manure, planting techniques in the equatorial zone, and interactions with farm animals.
3) San Agustín Archaeological Park. We’ll take a 4-hour drive to visit the San Agustín Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the largest site of pre-Columbian carved stones in Latin America.
It is up to each person to have their own experience; we are not teachers with a set curriculum that must be mastered to earn a diploma. Each person, at their own stage of curiosity and spiritual growth, will experience this moment that we are about to share. This can range from simply discovering the silence of nature to a state of full awareness or an interest in the relationship between humans and animals.
Interacting with Workaway participants:
It depends on each individual participant: Some are afraid of nature, insects, or wild animals, while others feel more at ease; some feel lost in the wilderness, while others appreciate the silence. Depending on each person’s ability to adapt and understand their surroundings, we will support them and spend time with them.
We will share our daily life, the day includes several key activities.
Yoga, meditation, and sophrology
Meal preparation
Meals
Personal hygiene
Evening activities
Work in the fields and on the farm
Bedtime
In any case, we will follow these daily routines, and we will spend time with our guests to explain what we are doing and invite them to join us.
On the farm, there is a vision of living self-sufficiently within a community. The rules of sharing, mutual aid, and communication differ from those of market-driven society. Knowledge exists on multiple levels: the relationship with oneself (yoga, meditation), the relationship with nature (farm work), and the relationship with others (community meals).
Help
The project:
We have a 6-hectare farm on which we are looking to develop a project.
A) The project
We would like to keep dairy cows (Holstein crossbreeds) on a zero-grazing system. (Tropical rains during the wet season – April to July – damage the soil when trampled by cattle.
B) 2 stages
The first stage would be to build a barn with a feed fence and space for a milking parlour, and to clear 4 hectares to test the sowing of various plants.
The second stage will be to acquire heifers, rear them on a zero-grazing system and milk them from their first calving.
What we are looking for: one or more people willing to live in Colombia for a few months to help us with this project (board and lodging provided).
Patrick and Alexandra
