A local community in the Ecuadorian Amazon is looking for an English teacher for their school. The community does not speak any English but the children need to learn English because it is obligatory if they want to continue studying at a college, high school or university. You will live with a local family and teach 5 days a week at the school. The kids really depend on foreign teachers to learn English. Especially with the pronounciation.
You will live in the Ecuadorian rain forest, with a local community. Live here is a little more primitive than in the big cities of course, as there is not much running water and no heating. But there is electricity and there is wifi at the school as well (though slow). But living in the Amazon has its benefits as well, it is a really peaceful and quiet place where it is lovely to stay for a while. Furthermore there are parrots, monkeys and all kinds of other animals living around you.
You will live with a local family who will provide all meals during your stay. These meals consist mainly of locally farmed fruits and vegetables. Because it is so important for them to have a foreign English teacher they will treat you like a hero. You will have a bed with mosquito net, which is not necessarily needed but will provide some additional comfort.
What do you need:
Requirements are at least a B1 level of Spanish, as the community does not speak English. Furthermore you do not necessarily need experience as a teacher, love for children is a must though.
We ask from our volunteers to stay at least around 6 weeks, because it is the time we think is required for the kids to actually learn something. Additionally, the longer you stay here the more you will love the place.
We can host up to 2 volunteers, so apply alone or with a friend to have a live changing experience here.
There are no fees or any other costs involved in this project.
Living in the Amazon has a lot of benefits. It is an amazingly beautiful place which is very peaceful and quiet. Furthermore there are parrots, monkeys and other animals living around you. But most importantly, you will have a lovely time playing sports and if you want dancing with the kids from the community and improve your Spanish as well. Whilst living in an amazing place with the warmest people.
We ask from the volunteer to teach English to the children from the local community. Therefore it is necessary to have at least a B1 level of Spanish, since the community does not speak English. Teaching experience is not necessary, love for children is enough.
The main aim is to teach the kids the pronounciation of English. As they try to study from a book a bit but they have no idea how to pronounce the words.
Importantly, we ask from the volunteers to stay for at least around 6 weeks, because it is important that the children get to know their teacher and teaching for one week will not deliver the desired results. Secondly the longer you stay here the more you will love the place.
English, Spanish, French, Dutch
You will stay with a local family who will provide food and sleeping. There is not much running water or heating but there are clean and functional bathrooms. You will get 3-4 meals a day, and they take very good care of you.
The community is a little far from the outside world, so during weekends it is most likely that you will stay with the community. You can help constructing new houses, or just relax and enjoy the nature. It is possible to go away in weekends though, just communicate that with the host family.
