THIS IS A TWO WEEK MAXIMUM COMMITMENT BEFORE AUGUST 14, 2019. POSSIBLY MID OCTOBER OPEN AS WELL.
Please tell us you understand this is physically hard work when you reply to us. Dan and I are both surfers, hikers, ocean swimmers and lovers. We have one cat, Mr. Spock. We have owned this small family farm for 4 years and there are times when it's just a bit more work than we want to do at our maturing ages! We have done every task ourselves that we now desire help to complete. Ka'ana Farm's intention is to grow, use and give away an extras we produce. We don't sell any of our products-even though people ask! We are not a commercial farm, just a 2 person family farm.
I teach families both here and at their homes (mostly) how to install raised beds and grow their own food to be sustainable. I also teach canning classes for the extra food we grow. Dan still works as a professional 4 days per week, mostly from home. We think of this as our spring cleaning up of the property. All the chores we have ignored or done (barely) all year, that now need doing. We will also need some easier help for a week or less the first or 2nd week of August. Mostly weedwacking, and misc. Tell us you can work for several hours with a weed eater when you write to us. This is how we know you have read our profile completely..
After 30 years here, I am a student of Oli, Hawaiian chant and hula. We can share the challenges and joys of being a minority in our host indigenous culture; respecting and honoring the 'aina and it's people. We will share our love for the natural beauty of our volcano, ocean and streams. We hike, surf, snorkel and ocean swim. Come work and play with us.
We have a LOT of WEEDEATING with a heavy power tool. HAULING of heavy chainsawed items. CANE GRASS REMOVAL via hard digging to pop out invasive plants. hand weeding around prickly pineapples and bromeliad plants. This is NOT light weeding of garden beds. That I can do myself. This is the harder tasks we need help with.
Some French, English, some Hawaiian creole.
THIS IS A TWO WEEK COMMITMENT MAXIMUM IN EARLY MAY AND ONE WEEK IN AUGUST. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO COMMIT TO BOTH OF THEM.
We will provide a tent if you don't have one but most of visitors to the islands have their own tent as there are so many beautiful places to camp on Maui- atop Haleakala crater, beachside or at Hana's famed 7 pools.
We offer camping on stunning acreage bordered by a 50 acre watershed gulch. Ultimate privacy (except for us) and yet open setting. Access to full hot/cold outdoor shower with a view, (exclusive to you) and shared bathroom facilities indoors as needed.
Shared cooking of some meals possible but we offer cooler with ice, campstove, utensils, lantern, tarp. We appreciate our privacy as well. This is not a fit for drinkers, druggers or night owls as we work early mornings and later days due to the heat of the tropics. When we start at 8 am, that means 8 am, not 9 am. We apologize if this sounds rather strict, but we've found that having a structure for our working together is best for all.
Public transport stops 15 minutes before our location so having a car is helpful, but between us dropping you and hitchhiking (relatively safe here), you can get around. And we like to make excursions to hike, waterfall swim, ocean swim, so we can introduce you to places unless you prefer your independence to find them yourself!
Maui is a playground of fun. Ho'okipa surf and windsurf park is 12 minutes drive. Baldwin Beach park with a long white sand beach is 15 minutes away. Twin falls and other waterfall areas are 10-20 minutes from us. We are on Maui's non-touristed North Shore, on the famed road to Hana. But we live well off any road you'd hear a car upon!
