Description
I am a single woman, a vocal and expressive arts coach, and artist who has been establishing a permaculture community gathering place and sanctuary in Port Townsend, WA over the past 4 years.
My vision on the land is to slowly grow the food production including an orchard, greenhouse and flower and herb gardens beyond the good sized garden we currently grow in. I currently host small private and community events here, and want to cultivate the land to be the most lush, inspiring, welcoming place it could be - to humans and our non-human friends. You would learn about and have a chance to apply some permaculture design, and hopefully bring your own skills and knowledge into the vision.Types of help and learning opportunities

Beyond this acre of land, there is an extensive organic farming community in the next town over, with rich soil and diverse approaches to creating our own sustainable greenbelt. We enjoy a strong ethic for sustainability and local living here - some organizations that reflect this are our version of Transition Town (local 20/20), Fort Worden Life Long Learning, Centrum Arts, Port Townsend Ecovillage, multiple arts and cultural festivals and social activist efforts like the Poetic Justice Theater Ensemble. I moved here because of the passionate and creative engagement that makes this feel something like a one big intentional community.
Help
We are back up and running as a workaway opportunity!
I am primarliy looking for help with gardens and landscaping (regenerative and permaculture style). Experience in organic food growing, herbs, pruning and food forests greatly appreciated, but at the least, some experience and a lot of enthusiasm to work outside in the soil!
General help with house maintenance is also desired... things like cleaning gutters, helping with clean up, organization, blade sharpening and small appliance repair.
Light building skills would also be put to great use here... fence repair, building steps, and we will build an beautiful outhouse and outdoor shower, and are hoping to erect a community house dome this summer, and would love help with that too!Languages

Two options!
There is very sweet, newly built, small (70sq ft) sleeping cabin in the back yard. No electricity, wood heat.
or
A 2 person tent on a platform, nestled along the edge of a wooded area and opens to a beautiful east facing meadow.
You would have access to an outdoor kitchen, primitive outhouse, and occasional use of the shower in my home.
We are surrounded on 3 sides by land trust land, so you can enjoy over 96 acres of trails and walks to the bluff over looking the puget sound. It is a quiet, peaceful place... and occasionally we do host community dances and other events that would impact that, hopefully in an enjoyable way! What else ...
The pacific northwest, and the Olympic Peninsula specifically is a treasure of this country for it's lush green beauty, snow capped mountain views, and unending shores. Port Townsend is lively community with many activities to enjoy on the water (kayaking/sailing), land (hikes, beach walks, biking, wildcrafting/foraging, Marine science museum), and more. This is also an arts town, and there is always great local music, dancing (from club, partner to ecstatic/conscious dance), art galleries, poetry reading, theater... We are a Victorian seaport, so you can explore a rich history of what almost became what Seattle is today. Thankfully it did not, and we do all we can to maintain the small town character and community connectedness that put Port Townsend on the map. It's also a 35 minute to 1 hour drive to the Olympic mountains!
As for getting around you can rent a bike, some public transport, walk...A little more information
