Direct minivan transport from Oaxaca is an adventure in its own -- 5 hours on asphalt then the last leg consists of magnificent mountain dirt-roads for another 3 hours (total one way cost: MXN $180).

Even more adventuresome is the chance to arrive by private jet from Oaxaca international airport in just 45 minutes one way (MXN $600), landing and taking-off on a mountain-top runway!

Lots of world-class mountain-hiking opportunities in the area, between 1-2 hours walk (one way) to nearby communities or summits.

Spectacular river 1-day trip down the valley to the Río Verde or Río Ciruelo, opportunity to explore some caves and historic sites.
