Jan 2019 - Current Conditions are still Hurricane Recovery and land management. We are elder farmers working land located on the edge of the remains of wilderness in the Florida Keys. We have been salt farmers and aspiring permaculture farmers and many other variations on those themes. We aim to be compatible with good stewardship of all resources of the planet and ourselves.
Permaculture Ethics: People Care, Planet Care, Resource Share
WHEN INQUIRING: Kindly identify dates of interest and confirmation of our camping arrangements.
Also the more you share about yourself the better.

Living off the land in the Florida Keys is a unique experience and one without compare.
UPDATE December 2018: ALERT!!!
We are still only accepting inquiries for short term helpers who are able to flow with the pace of farm life as it is now - which is disaster recovery with rough wilderness camping. Farmer Midge is challenged by chronic condition that prevents her from doing farm work on Many days and Farmer Tom is limited in his physical stamina. This has resulted in some creative scheduling of various tasks relative to land and projects. There is a tremendous amount of outdoor work to be done and bush clearing, mulch moving, tree trimming, rock collecting, vegetative debris hauling. Also, maintenance of the land and buildings is a never ending task in our sub-tropical paradise.
Wilderness camping site for sleeping, volunteers bring their own tent WITH NO-SEEUM SCREEN and other supplies including sanitary facilities.
VITAL INFO: No-See-Ums and Mosquitoes can sometimes be fierce; A newer tent with no-see-um screen is Essential. We are a scent/fragrance/chemical free farm ... we ask that all guests are so while volunteering with us - the one exception is organic/herbal pest repellants, please no DEET and limit citronella, lemongrass sprays. We are a NO SMOKING Farm!
ABOUT THE KEYS: There is a wealth of info available online by searching "Florida Keys", "Key West", "Overseas Highway", "7 mile bridge", "Everglades", "Key Deer", "Bahia Honda State Park", "Fort Zachary Taylor" "Grimal Grove"
ABOUT OUR FARM: prior to hurricane Irma We specialized in solar evaporated sea salt, perennial vegetables and permaculture methods. We are now aiming to recover from category 4 hurricane Irma. Located 20 miles from Key West on a public bus line, there are no close by stores or attractions other then the natural world of the Great White Heron Wildlife Refuge, our local swimming hole and a public athletic field.
ABOUT THE FARMERS: Early to bed, early to rise with siesta mid-day is our best day. Sometimes the farming life means something different. We are quiet lovers of the land and enjoy hosting and learning about other families and cultures. We do not smoke tobacco and require that guests refrain while on the land.
