    Description

Nagi and Victoria, 2 cats ( Samba and Salsa) and 2 dogs ( Luna and Flapjack) live near Monmouth on the border between England and Wales. We live in a big house with 7 acres of land. We grow a lot of vegetables and fruit and have a small holding of chickens, ducks, geese, pigmy goats and rare Soay sheep. Donkeys occupy one of our paddocks during the summer months. We have a cottage that we let out to holiday visitors throughout the year.
We live in a very quiet village called Welsh Newton Common which is about 4 miles away from Monmouth. We are 45 minutes away from Newport where you can catch frequent trains to London. The cathedral city of Hereford (home of the Mappa Mundi) is about half an hour away and also has a train station, as does the lovely old market town of Ledbury which is about 40 minutes away.
We live near Ross on Wye which is an area of outstanding natural beauty. Canoeing, kayaking, walking, running, horse riding, fishing are some of the activities you can do around here all within 15-20 minutes away.
We have one or two spare rooms where you can stay in our house. There is also plenty of space outside if you prefer to bring your own tent! The night owls and high security geese may keep you awake at night though!
We both love travelling, cooking, watching movies, reading and gardening.

You will be living in the English/ Welsh countryside and all that that offers. We would be able to guide you as to where to visit depending on your interest both in England and in Wales. We would help with explaining the language, history and culture as one of us used to specialise in English literature and language and our daughter Noorah, who also lives and works here, is a trained TEFL teacher. We would introduce you to English and Welsh cuisine, accompany you to festivals when convenient and help with teaching English if needed.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We can take you on days out; we have an extensive library which you may use, play our piano, use our bicycle, take the dogs for a walk, visit local gym and swimming pool in Monmouth, visit the canoe club, try choir practice in Malvern etc
We chose Monmouth so we can enjoy nature’s beauty, peace and quiet, but also because the busy city life is not too far away. It is nice to visit the theatre in Malvern or in London or have a city break every now and again.
We expect you to be one of the family but there is also plenty of space for you to be alone if you choose to.

We are happy for our guests to use their spare time in whatever way suits them. Our internet connection is usually very reliable and reasonably fast (our son has been working entirely online from home full-time for most of the past year during the UK's Covid-19 lockdown, and has encountered very few issues with connectivity). Our visitors will be provided with a desk/work area in their room if that is what they prefer, or they can choose to work in a number of other areas in the house where they will not be disturbed.
