  • Description

To this end I am planning some short visits in the New Year to complete several jobs which I started in the Summer months.

There will also be dates in the spring and early summer of 2020 when we will seek further help.

Hi we are a very friendly and approachable Irish couple who are extremely fortunate to own two cottages at Malin Head, co Donegal, Ireland.
We reside in England most of the year but our Irish cottages form a very important part of our lives.

These cottages are traditional Irish cottages which we have restored by ourselves over the past 14 years.

They are located in one of Ireland’s most beautiful and scenic areas which is part of the wild Atlantic Way.

As part of the ongoing restoration process we are planning to renovate/ convert two existing stone buildings into an Art Studio / Gallery and a dwelling.

The renovation process has begun and the buildings have been re roofed and windows and doors fitted.

I would greatly appreciate an extra pair of hands to help me with the work involved.

You do not have to have specific building skills or knowledge; just need to be keen and enjoy physical activity and learning new skills.

This particular trip is of a short duration but it might interest someone who is visiting and touring around Ireland around this time.

If so, they will get free accommodation with all meals provided and the maximum amount of working time each day would be 4-5 hours.

If someone is interested they will get the opportunity to stay for free in lovely accommodation with superb food in one of the most iconic parts of the Wild Atlantic Way.

If I can have a minimum of two days work and a max of 4 days that would be ideal.

You will have a memorable experience in one of the most beautiful parts of Ireland and you will be helping to create something magical for future guests to see when they visit this unique parts of Ireland.

On a personal note we are both teachers who took early retirement in order to pursue other interests; of which the restoration and development of our Irish home is an important part.

I look forward to hearing back from any interested people.

So please feel free to suggest other dates when you might be available and if they fit in with our plans we will make contact.

    Kind regards

    Vince & Oona

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

They will certainly learn new skills about door making and window fitting in an old building. They will also be learning about a unique part of Ireland from someone who has taught all their professional life.

They will experience living for a short period of time in one of Ireland’s most beautiful and iconic landscapes.

They will also have the opportunity to be part of creating something special and I guarantee that they will want to return.

They will leave with a Malin Head Memory they won’t forget.

Our cottages are form part of Ireland’s most northerly Clachan - they are located at Banba’s Crown, Ireland’s most northerly point. Made famous recently as one of the sites the movie “The last Jedi” was filmed here but more importantly it is the kingdom of the Tuatha De Danann the mystical little people of Ireland.

It is also one of the most iconic parts of the wild Atlantic Way.

They will also have an opportunity to be given a personal tour of the most interesting parts of this incredible place. There is also the chance of seeing the Northern Lights especially as it is in the winter months.

They will experience a real Irish welcome!

  • Help

Two main tasks requiring help. Make and fit a wooden gate 12 feet wide 7 feet high.
Fit one possibly two windows in stone building.
All work is at ground level and does not involve building expertise or risk.

The tasks will be made easier if there are two people helping.

I’ll provide the skills and knowledge, tools and any safety clothes, gloves, etc required.
I just want a keen person who is reasonably fit and likes physical outdoor work.

When helpers are not working I will take them to the key local sites. They can also have the use of a bike to cycle to local places of interest. There is a local bus that passes the door 4 times a day which goes to local places of interest.
