    Description

Retired from 37 year law enforcement career, am 57 year old woman attempting to maintain a 50 acre hobby horse farm. My home is a country paradise surrounded by woods and nestled in the heart of the beautiful Kawartha Lakes. Have been on my own since 2008 with 2 children, 1 completed university & living in Northern Ontario, the other 2 years from completion of becoming a Doctor of Chiropractic, studying away from home.

My farm consists of 6 horses 1 dog & a cat. I participate in an active life style of kayaking, horseback riding, & motorcycling. After my separation from a 20 year marriage I have been determined to maintain the family farm, which is the only home my children have ever known. I have come to the realization that the home and farm has become far too challenging for me to keep up with some of the demands. When my children come home to visit our quality of time together is compromised as there are so many things on the "To Do List" that our visits revolve around the work to be done.

My home was originally designed around a double income, but I continue to try to keep up on a single income & now that of a pension. Bottom line, I need help, I can not bring myself to admit defeat & say I can not manage and I don't want to burden my children & neighbours to continue to assist me. So I reach out to the "WorkAway" program to see if there is a suitable match of someone that can assist me with farming type activities, house hold maintence and the like, in exchange for shared accommodations/ meals within a quaint country paradise setting.

I am mild mannered & easy to get along with, have a unique zest for life/ sense of humour & a strong work ethic. The farm is located 15 minutes from Peterborugh, Ontario, 1.5 hours from Tornto & 4 hours from Ottawa.

In addition should the volunteer have pets of their own it may be possible for them to have their pet stay here as well.

Depends on where the volunteer is coming from. I am sure there are so many things that I take for granted such as the vast Kawartha Lakes, Niagra Falls, CN Tower,Great Lakes, Maskoka/ Algonquin Park region I live in. I offer a holsome country life style with opportunities to see & do whatever the individual is interested in. I am retired and my time somewhat flexible.

My home/farm is 15 minute drive to the nearest town. Volunteers own mode of transportation would be a benifit. There is plenty of activities to do in the local area with Peterborugh offering most everything any other city has to offer. Am approximately 1.5 hrs to Toronto & 4 to Ottawa. There is ample opportunity for hunting, fishing, hiking, canoeing/ kayaking within minutes of my home.
