We are a family of five who own a small farm in the eastern highlands of Limpopo Province in South Africa. We run a retreat on our farm as well as a farm venue where we host a number of gatherings such as weddings, music events, a neighbourhood food market and a number of other celebrations. We are busy expanding our business by building additional accommodation and are starting a permaculture food garden. We are striving to create a beautiful space that is as much off the grid as possible, that people can come to and really experience a slower pace of life.
We have built one of our cottages out of cob and would like to share sustainable building practices with others through workshops offered on our farm. Our older two children are both working - our daughter in Vietnam and our son in Cape Town and both have traveled extensively both working and volunteering in different parts of the world. Our youngest is finishing school this year.
We are located in a very beautiful part of South Africa up in the Magoebaskloof mountains and the farm has a fresh water river running through it. We have worked extensively in the rural areas of the Northern parts of this country and are able to share our knowledge of the cultural and natural diversity of this province. We are looking for young volunteers that are willing to work hard but at the same time have one of the best all round experiences!!!

Assist with managing functions and cooking in our farm kitchen as well as serving behind our pub in the venue area. We are particularly interested in volunteers that have cooked elsewhere for larger groups of people as we are short staffed in our farm kitchen.
Here you will work with our staff and learn a lot about local cuisine. We also need hands with our building projects and volunteers can learn a number of building techniques including sustainable building methods. We are also looking for volunteers interested in assisting with the development of our perma culture food garden.
Room in the main farm house. Separate cottage accommodation from December 2014.
The Kruger National park is only and hour and a half away and here volunteers can experience the true African bush and animals. There is a mountain wilderness area on our doorstep with a number of hiking trails. We have mountain bike trails and adventure activities in the area. We have three horses on our farm and experienced riders can go on outrides through the area. An opportunity to volunteer at a local Non Government organisation working with young people at school in the rural areas close to us.
