Our farm is a family home set within 30 acres of secluded valley on the Dorset/Devon border, 2 miles from picturesque Lyme Regis - the 'Pearl of Dorset' - on the Jurassic coast. With woods, meadows, an orchard, two ponds and a stream running through it, the farm is a place of great natural beauty and home to abundant wildlife, but has not been a productive farm for some years. We are currently embarking on a program of improvement, with a philosophy of sustainability, reviving woodland and creating a new garden.
Help with Eco project
Volunteers will be helping alongside our experienced gardener and groundsman and will have the opportunity to learn from them about a wide variety of topics from germination and propagation of plants to composting and woodland management.
Volunteers are needed to help with a varied range of gardening tasks, some of them heavy. There is lots to do and there will normally be a choice of tasks. Although volunteers will normally be helping alongside our gardener, our groundsman, or garden apprentice, they may sometimes be asked to do tasks independently. It would suit flexible, practical, outdoorsy people
Accommodation is self-contained in a renovated old flint barn, with loft bedroom, shower room, kitchenette and large living space, in an idyllic rural setting.
The farm is set in an officially designated 'area of outstanding natural beauty', in beautiful countryside on the border of Devon and Dorset, a short distance from the coast. Axminster train station (4 miles away) has a service to London in 2hrs 45. There will mostly be a car on site for lifts to either local shops or bus or train station.
