Me and my family has a beautiful farm on the island Ornö in the Stockholm archipelago. The place consist of five small houses, a stable and an old barn. As the years pass by we struggle to do the necessary maintenance work required to keep the place healthy and intact.
My father is an architect and inherited this piece of land 50 years ago. Since then the place has been radically transformed, but we have been keen to keep track of its historic 18th century charm. We now have roads leading up the houses, tap water and electricity.
Welcome to our magic island this summer.
DIY and building projects
We hope that you will feel part of our family as you stay with us, perhaps pick up on the Swedish language and get to know our cultural peculiarities. We guarantee to offer piece of mind through a highly unique archipelago experience on a secluded piece of land. We look forward to have you.
This summer we hope to make a push when in comes to maintenance tasks on all our houses. The tasks includes simple construction, painting and taking care of the open landscape garden including cutting grass, trees and so on. Someone in our family will be there most of the time to guide you with the tasks but it would be preferable that you hold some experience from manual labor and construction work.
If you happen to be skilled craftsman/woman we have a never ending construction projects of a new house that you are very welcome to take part in.
For you information ---> we do not seek to run a heavy labor camp but hope to create a symbiotic relationship between you, our family and our summer farm. We believe having an ongoing friendly dialogue is key to ensure expectations from both ends are fulfilled.
We have a number of houses available to accomodate you. You will get your your own house, fully furnished with fully equipped kitchen, open fireplace and no more than 100 meter from the water. Your house comfortably sleeps three but we recommend for no more than two people to live permanently in any of the houses. The house has running water, electricity and view over the fields where grazing horses and sheep stroll by.
Ornö is a spectacular island wiht many beautiful sights, a small church and a local store and a bar/restaurant. The archieplago boats will take you into to Stockholm in 90 min or you can take the car ferry and then drive to the city in less than 90 min. The closest village on the mainland is Dalarö, a pittoresque town with shops, bars and restaurant. The Ornö ferry leaves every 30 min to Dalarö.
In addition, we have a fully equipped workshop with tools that you are welcome to use for personal projects. We also have a sauna right next to a lake that you are welcome to use. You are alse very welcome to cultivate your own vegetables and spices etc if you find that appealing.
