Hello, my name is Michelle.
I am the owner of a beautiful farm in Central Portugal, and we love having volunteers stay with us to share knowledge with them and share our little piece of magic.
In our first year of hosting Workaway volunteers, we accommodated 30 people with great success. As we enter into our second year we want to improve the experience for both us and the volunteers thus we would like to host people for a minimum stay of 4 weeks which allows for a more structured experience and more opportunities to cover a wider range of tasks and to explore the local surroundings.
We would like assistance with general farm work and looking after horses. We have 11 horses; some are our personal riding horses but most are used for interactions and therapy - this is the focus of the horse experience for guests coming to the farm, and besides the regular horse duties volunteers can assist with getting the horses accustomed to the interactions with particular tasks.
Our farm is also a wellness retreat center with an amazing yoga studio and a vegetarian/vegan kitchen, thus yoga teachers and vegetarian/vegan cooks are always welcome. Workaway volunteers do not need any experience and anyone is welcome to apply if however, you do have relevant experience this will be viewed favorably. Our most successful volunteers have the following characteristics:
• A true love of animals is a must as all our horses are family members
• Good work ethic as you will be left to carry out the task by yourself at times
• Self-starter and have some common-sense.
Our non-human family has some Irish Sport Horses, an Irish draft, some cobs, a Lusitano, miniature Shetland ponies plus seven dogs, 20 chickens and some fish in our meditation pond.
There is a family of four humans that live on the farm and the volunteers are accommodated in a bunkhouse which is well-appointed with a bathroom and kitchen space and shared a bedroom. The farm is only 2 minutes from the local train station which is an hour from Lisbon city by train. The local cafe and restaurant is only a 10-minute walk away. There is a swimming pool on the farm and bikes to use to discover the area.
Any questions please message me, and I will happily and promptly answer any of your questions.
We can be flexible for the right person on the duration of time spent with us and helping you along on your traveling adventure
In short…..if you are a lover of horses, nature and yoga then this is the place for you.

Help in the house
We are English speaking but there are many Portuguese team members that work on the farm too so you can always practice your Portuguese. Come and learn new skills with horses, breathe the fresh air and enjoy the Portuguese sun. This also a retreat center and yoga classes are available.
We have 11 horses and they are all living out in big grass paddocks. We need help with the normal daily horsey tasks. All the horses, apart from 5, get daily exercise - we need help with collecting them from the field and bringing them to be groomed and checked over, ready for interaction training. Also, poo picking and general help when needed on the farm like gardening or help prepare or cook in the kitchen.
A bunkhouse that has 4 beds in with all modern fittings and a TV and Netflix. The bunkhouse has a private shower room and toilet with a fully equipped kitchen area. All the food is provided and sometimes we have a big family meal together.
We are just over an hour away from Lisbon, easily reached by train. And 10 mins away from Golega, the European center of horses. There are lots of local cafes and restaurants and we have a pond on the farm for natural swimming or you can chill by the pool. There are also lots of local historical sites for you to explore, as well as the Tagus river.
