    Description

    Hi!

We are Vera (29) and Kowai (38), a couple living in the northwest of the Netherlands. We live on a 100 year old farm surrounded by meadows, trees and the occasional cow or sheep. We spend our time working (not a lot), maintaining the organic vegetable garden, doing chores around the house, cooking and eating with friends, practicing meditation and work on building projects.

We try to keep a nice balance between working and relaxing and make sure to take time out to enjoy our beautiful garden. We would like to live as self-sustainable as possible and are hoping we will get there in a couple of years. For now we try to live as eco-friendly as possible and try to recycle as much as we can.

Because of the old house and big plot we need some help from time to time to keep things running smoothly. Right now we are working on the house, we need to put in a couple of new floors, change a few water taps, and paint the walls and windows. Also the bathroom needs a lot of work (if you're into luxurious bathing you might not feel at home here. However, we always try to keep things as clean and neat as possible).

We have a huge barn that also needs paint and to be cleaned out. The garden always needs attending, and so does the vegetable garden. And we need to build a wood storage before fall kicks in (september/october). So as you can see, we could use some help :)

We're looking for some handy women and man who would like to help us fix up the place who don't mind getting their hand a bit dirty and love being outdoors. Also, we love to cook (a lot) so it wouldn't hurt if you love to eat ;)
Experience in 'do-it-yourself-ing' is not required although it would be very handy if you knew how to work with tools.

We offer: a nice and friendly place to stay in the middle of Hollands finest nature (Google "noord holland natuur" to get an idea.) We have two spare bedrooms, one inside the house and one is a newly build room above the barn. The bedrooms (one is 6m2, the other one is 32m2) both have a double bed. The big one above the barn also has two chairs, a table and a tv and can also be equipped with another double bed. The toilet, bathroom and kitchen you can share with the two of us. We cook 3 times a day and you are offcourse welcome to eat with us. We eat mostly vegetarian but are 'meat-friendly', and can always take in account any dietary wishes you might have.

We live nearby a small town with a lot of nice shops, restaurants and small bars (13-15 min by bike). The sea is also very close: 30 minutes by bike. The supermarket is 10 minutes by bike. You can always lend our bikes to go anywhere, or if you want to go a bit further you can lend the car.

If you would like to stay with us for a while please send us a message. We are looking forward to meeting you!
    Hope to see you soon!

    Vera and Kowai

We offer a nice and friendly place to stay in the middle of Hollands finest nature (Google "noord holland natuur" to get an idea.) We are both from this region and know the area well. We would love to show you around. There is a lot of interesting things to see, such as the dikes and the dunes. Did you know this part of the Netherlands would be under water if it weren't for the dikes? If you're into nature: Vera's dad is a biologist who knows everything there is to know about nature in this area. He loves taking people on a tour and there is always something new to see and learn! You can also visit the traditional folklore market on thursday, there you can see how people lived in the 1910's.

We can teach you what we know about organic farming and about building. We have learned a lot in the last few years but there is always a lot more to learn! We are always interested to see what we can learn from you!

    What else ...

We live nearby a small town with a lot of nice shops, restaurants and small bars (13-15 min by bike). The sea is also very close: 30-35 minutes by bike. The supermarket is 10 minutes by bike. You can always lend our bikes to go anywhere, or if you want to go a bit further you can lend the car. Amsterdam is 1 hour away when you take the train. We used to live there so we can give you a few great local tips if you are interested in visiting!

Other things to do in our area:
    - ride horses on the beach
    - go to the traditional folklore market on thursday and see how people lived in the 1910's
    - visit the zoo
    - visit one of the national parks
    - go to the navy museum and set foot in one of the submarines
    - visit the huge butterfly garden
    - visit the traditional dutch vegetable auction
    - rent a boat (fun!)
    - rent a scooter and go explore

We love to have guests but also like our privacy from time to time. We think you might too, that is why you get your own part of the garden to relax in. We also keep a small part of the garden to ourselves, so everyone can take a break if they need to.

We usually go to bed before midnight but feel free to stay up longer. The house and garden are big enough to not disturb each other.

Although we drink alcohol we tend to not drink excessively. We sometimes drink a glass of wine during dinner or a couple of beers by the campfire, and offcourse you are more then welcome to join! Smoking is allowed, but only outside.

We try to use as man eco-friendly products as possible, since the wastewater goes directly into the groundwater. Therefore we ask you to use eco soaps. If you don't have any, don't worry, you can use ours.
