My husband Bernd, a trained ceramic tile installer, and I, Nicole, immigrated from Germany to Nova Scotia 17 years ago. We live in Bridgewater and have two dogs, Bruno and Jacob. Right after we moved here, we started a ceramic installation business which is very successful. A decade ago we also started to make functional art. This brought us to the idea to build an art maze made out of concrete, stone and plants. In August 2018 we finally opened the maze to the public after 5 years of construction. But this is a never ending project. We already have started with the next project, a magical forest. We also always will add stuff to the maze. The maze is on our property outside of town. There we have our own private swimming pond/lake with a waterslide, diving board, party island and adjacent firepit and BBQ.

Although we ourselves are "come-from-aways" in Nova Scotia, you definitively will experience the laid back way of living in Atlantic Canada.
We work mainly with concrete in all kinds of ways and metal and are willing to teach you whatever it takes. Together we will build aMAZEing things.
We need helpers to add to the maze, help creating the enchanted forest and do manual labour. No skills required, just willingness to work along with us and have fun. An interest for art would be nice, but not necessary. There's lots of art work to be done, but also maintance around the work shop and prep work for the art projects. This year we want to concentrate on building a lobster trap and a concrete block wall around the magical forest.
The project has started in April 2014 and was sort of finished in 2018. Opening day was August 30, 2018! The maze is completed, except of one mosaic mural still missing, but sculptures and landscaping still need to be done for and in the enchanted forest which will be adjacent to the maze. Anyone with a green thumb is more than welcome!
And by the way, we don't work outside on miserable days, therefore we have our workshop.
We have a camp (our volunteers call it the condo) which has a kitchen with microwave, cook stove, fridge, a bathroom with walk-in shower and a washing machine, a common area and 3 bedrooms. It's really close to our own swimming pond with water slide and sip line. There is a propane BBQ on site, but also a wood-fired one and a big fire pit for bonfires. Wifi on the hole property.
