As enthusiastic house restorers and lovers all things outside we moved into Haycroft in early 2019. The grade II listed house & cottage has undergone a program of massively unsympathetic 'over-modernisation' in the 1980s and we've taken it upon ourselves to bring Haycroft back, closer to its 16th century origins. We are in our early-50s, both employed full-time; Nick working from home, running his own classic-car related business and Catherine a mental-health nurse. We both enjoy walking, community, cooking and the preservation of nature.
There are many opportunities for walking from the house, either through ancient woods along the river Teign or higher up onto the moors which have many stone circles. Cycling is also a possibility, though you should come equipped with a 'no-fear-of-hills' attitude towards the landscape! This is a rural, tranquil retreat within a small, very ancient Dartmoor hamlet of less than 25 houses in total.
This will appeal to people who like to help outdoors and then sit together in the evening relaxing and watching/listening the wildlife.
We would welcome a combination of general DIY, gardening and maintenance skills for external tasks. Our house is within a one-acre plot, split into three gardens, over three levels. For those able to use a brush & roller both the farmhouse, barn & cottage require external paint. We also have a good number of hedges which need pruning, removing/burning. We would plan to work alongside any volunteers who come to help us, with us performing any required work with hand-held light-machinery (chainsaws, concrete breakers etc).

The main farmhouse has a pair of large & private double guest-rooms, each with a generous en-suite bathroom. There is also plenty of external, secure storage for bicycles etc. There is plenty of parking at Haycroft.
Chagford is a bracing 20-25 min walk from Haycroft and features a number of excellent independent shops, pubs and restaurants. There is also a post-office and ATM. With limited public transport nearby we would be happy to offer transportation to/from Exeter rail station which is on the mainline route to London Paddington (2hrs 15min).
