We are an animal shelter with two locations centered around the picturesque town of Kalibo, Aklan, Philippines. We have guest rooms for volunteers at the main location where you can do a variety of tasks, ranging from veterinary (primarily spay/neuter, treatments, diagnosis), kennel cleaning, dog training, dog walking, socialisation of kittens and puppies, educational campaigns at primary schools or organisations, promotion etc. While I can't vouch for our (local) staff, the founder and president is vegan (but he generally still lives in the Netherlands).
Animal Care
Staying and helping out at the animal shelter gives you the opportunity to meet people and experience local culture and sights that very few tourists would ever see. We're a small scale family-run organisation and our relatives will welcome you in their midst. Working with our disabled pets, like taking them to the beach in their wheelchairs, is an exhilarating experience not to be missed.
There is a wide variety of tasks, so we're quite sure there's something there for everyone! The only qualification that we require is that you're serious about working with our stray cats and dogs. Please note that an important aspect of being an international volunteer with us is to keep an eye on the welfare of the animals and if local staff are pulling their weight. So experience with managing people is an advantage.

There are many undiscovered sights in the area, despite the proximity of the busy and well-known tourist destination Boracay (still worth a day trip at 70km or 2 hours one way), such as Jawili Falls and Jawili Beach, Malumpati and Hurom-Hurom cold springs, Igpasungaw Falls and the picturescue surroundings of Buruanga, which is great for diving and snorkeling. The work is free-format and can be done whichever way suits you best, we're flexible. The main road is a leisurely 800m stroll away and from there you can take a "tricycle" either to Kalibo (8km) or the small town Banga nearby.
