Make a difference in the lives of 200 less-privileged children in Ghana
Be part of the overall organisation and management of our Kindergarten, Preparatory and Primary School and help us improve the quality of education at the school and give the children a better future. We offer a challenging yet rewarding opportunity which will have an impact on the lives of more than 200 less-privileged children in Tema, Greater Accra.
We are urgently looking for enthusiastic Workawayers who are willing to assist in the overall organisation and management of the school. The current managing system needs to be further developed and improved. We are excited have someone who will come up with new ideas, help improve day to day operations, help plan monitoring and evaluation of performance for students and management as well to enhance quality of education so the school can reach the international standards it has as its targets.
The school started in 2008 with 20 children, but has grown to a school of 200 pupils, whilst 40 of them are sponsored by the school. It is the vision of the school to give the children the required personal attention, and therefore the school works with small classes only. This way, every talent of the child would be spotted and nurtured. Our school stands for personal development, creativity and active learning.
We are looking for a Workawayer who is willing to commit themselves for a minimum of 3 months, however an ideal period would be 6 months to a year. We could place a maximum of two Workawayers simultaneously.
We would give the Workawayer an exciting and unique experience. First of all, we would provide the volunteer with sufficient free time. We would help you to meet other volunteers and expatriates in Greater Accra, engage in other activities like learning of one local language, learn about the lifestyle, cultures and traditions of the different tribes within Ghana, explore the environment and get to know the very diverse culture the country has. You may travel around for some weeks and your host will help you to plan this trip.
The voluntary work placement is a combination of administrative work together with teaching in the classroom to be able to allow the Workawayer understudy the situation on the grounds to be better informed on the situation and come up with workable solutions. It shall also require training teachers to improve the curriculum and be creative with and most productive with available resources of the school.
There are different accommodation options available. Volunteers could either stay with a host family in a compound house, which is located about 30 to 60 minutes from the school (depending on the traffic situation), or alternatively individually in a self-contained apartment at the compound of the school. The kitchen at the self-contained apartment is shared with a few other people who are also living in the school premises. Here, you may decide to cook yourself or to eat with others.
