    Description

Hello, my name is Tristan. I am living with my family in the summer time out on an island of the coast of southern Maine. Out there we have a beautiful cabin that we have been living in for 3 summers now. We are looking for some people to help us buildup our property. We need help with our medicinal garden and some light construction work when time comes if you have any experience or are eger to learn something new. While out on the island we can partake in many things such as going out on the boat, fishing for lobsters, enjoying evening fires while the sunsets. The island is very tranquil and a beautiful sight to see with new challenges everyday.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

While out on the island we can teach you many things about the experiences we’ve had around the world. Our family originally coming from Iceland have spent lots of time overseas in different places learning about new cultures and traditions. As well as being able to teach you lots about Iceland. Wether it be about some of the foods we eat or the language if you’re interested in trying to learn one of the hardest ones. We hope to be able to provide you with as much knowledge and connection as you will to us.

Other tasks around the house such as helping with the cooking and cleaning. Lastly with the right skill set looking for some people to help in some building projects we are undertaking to the house and the land that we want to develop. All throughout my life I have spent time traveling to new countries and as I’m creating this page I am concluding a three month backpacking trip through Europe where I have had the most wonderful time. Languages are the backbone to every culture and it would be amazing to be able to connect with people speaking there native language while traveling. The top three languages on my list are Italian, Spanish, French but I am open to learning anything new as I believe they’re all beautiful!

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We have a couple different options in regards to accommodation and depends on how many people we have put at the property. We have tents that we have set up for people before. A room with a traditional bed. A canvas tent that is setup on a deck and turned into a full bedroom. The accommodation is for sure not the most luxurious but it comes with living on an off grid location where all of our energy comes from the sun and our water up from a well. There is the ability for warm showers or cold ones whichever your preference and the toilet is an outhouse. Everyone needs to eat so we will be making food for everyone and we know people all have different needs that we can accommodate but ask that people help with the making of the meals as more people means more tasks around the house.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

In your time off you can spend time on the mainland exploring Portland or if you’re able to find transportation to get you farther up the coast or inland you can go as well. We have paddle boards out in the island for you to use and go around the bay and we will often go out on the boat for various activities like sightseeing, fishing, and sometimes some water sports. The town is absolutely gorgeous with tons of good restaurants to try out and Southern Maine allows for some beautiful sights! We go often over to town to get goods or materials we need out on the island so don’t thing you’ll be far from accessing anything necessary.

We have internet through Starlink which is a satellite wifi. We have am had good luck with it so far but for someone that is doing work where you need very large upload or download speeds I’m not sure how great it would be. But for video calls and streaming purposes we have done fine with multiple people on the network at the same time.

    Space for parking camper vans

We have a spot where you can park your vehicle but not so that you could access it all the time. If you wanted to live in it you would need to have a way to get to work as well since we live mostly full time out on the island.

    Can possibly accept pets

For the most part we can accommodate pets it would just be nice to know what kind of pet your bringing in as we have some animals like chickens and another dog and would want to know that they’re a good fit first.
