Mackenzie is a small mill town in north central BC. Built in the late 1960s, it is still largely surrounded by wilderness. Bear, moose, fox and beaver are common wildlife here. There are many small lakes in the area for fishing, swimming, paddling, and a beautiful lake with a beach right in town! Golf, hiking, horseback riding, camping and mountain-biking are some other activities available. In winter there is x-country skiiing and a ski resort 45 mins east. The town has hiking/ biking trails, including several MTB trails. The mighty Peace River with the WAC Bennett dam to the northeast.
Mackenzie has a Co-op grocery, library, rec centre w/ pool, nine-hole golf course, a bakery, natural food store, community garden, restaurants, and two pubs. Cultural activities in town include an arts centre with drop-in programs, a potters guild, library, museum, and occasional local music jams. Job opportunities tend to be in forestry, mining or the mills. Some placer mining in the area.
Some off-gridders and alt-preneurs living up here. They are always happy to share their activities with visitors.
