Hello! This is my first time on Workaway, and I am so excited to start this journey! I have been a traveling all my life- primarily in Europe because of my mom's job- and absolutely love experiencing different cultures, meeting new people, and immersing myself in different ways of life.
Since most of my travels have been abroad, I haven't had the chance to explore much of my home country, the US. This is one of the main reasons I joined Workaway- not j just to travel, but to experience life here by becoming part of it. I don't just want to be a tourist; I want to learn from you (Workaway hosts) and live alongside you.
I am especially drawn to the country lifestyle. I love everything about it. the beautiful open landscapes, the strong sense of community, the hard work, the connection to the land and animals, and the simple yet fulfilling way of life. While I don't have much hands-on experience yet, it is my dream to one day buy land of my own, where I can build a home and become self sufficient. I get my motivation from this dream and above all, my faith in Jesus Christ gives me the motivation, strength, and joy to pursue it. Through Him, all things are possible.
I can't wait to see where this adventure takes me and the amazing people I will meet along the way!

I am a freshman in college going for a Physical Therapy Degree, and with this I am required to practice many skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, time management, communication, and collaboration.

I also work part-time at a yoga and massage studio as a front desk receptionist and custodian. Throughout my entire shift, I interact with customers face-to-face, manage the computer system, make phone calls, handle cash and credit card transactions, fold laundry, and clean the entire studio after closing. Most of the time, I’m juggling multiple tasks at once. While this job might seem straightforward, it actually requires a lot of flexibility and problem-solving to adapt to different situations.

I love cooking, making my own food, and trying new recipes. My favorite meal to cook is steak (rare of course). I enjoy learning new skills in the kitchen and cooking for my family. My mom always says cooking is the universal language- sharing a meal can sometimes mean more than words. I would love to share recipes and help in the kitchen with my future Workaway hosts.

I have extensive childcare experience. I have been babysitting for over 5 years with children ages 2-12. I also worked as a summer camp counselor for 6-9 year olds where I became CPR and AED Certified.

Other things about me is that I enjoy playing the guitar in my free time. I like learning new songs and strengthening my guitar skills. I am not the best guitar player but practice makes perfect. Just like cooking, music is also a universal language that can bring so many people together. Some of my favorite musicians include John Mayer, Chris Stapleton, Sturgil Simpson, and the Red Clay Strays.
I am a very easy going person, a quick learner, and a great student. If I don't have the experience you are looking for, I can guarantee that if you give me the chance to learn, I will execute that skill to the best of my ability.

vom Host für Workawayer ()

Sophie was only here for a day, with the other girl that she arrived with. We knew with all the whispering from the moment they arrived that they weren't here to make it work. We give a biscuit to the new people as they arrive, when they get out of the truck, because our dogs are guard dogs and when they know that they are getting a biscuit and… read more they can smell that hand that feeds them, they're always fine within an hour...AND no workawayer has been bitten until now. They're actually VERY cuddly dogs with everyone from the first day! We adopted these dogs from the city from someone that kept them in a kennel 20 hours a day and they love it here with us on the farm. We did not realize that the male was a bit anxious when we took them. He nipped her by the ankle because when someone just walks straight to the house without talking to that dog and giving him a biscuit, and he didn't have time to smell her, he gets anxious. And yes Lawrence should have given the biscuits as soon as they arrived as I was still in the house when it happened, but he was busy getting groceries out of the truck and forgot or whatever. No blood was drawn, just a very tiny one tooth hole in her jeans. I guess I should have taken a picture of it, if I had known it would be blown up like this. I offered to replace them. We have signs that we have guard dogs and I was upset it happened. But as for the horses, that's where I draw the line. I did say that a vet visit is usually between $500 to $1000 for them to come here. We can't haul the horses to the vet as we don't have a functioning cattle trailer anymore since the herd of cattle were sold in 2017. However, when nothing is actually SICK, we don't call the vet. All the vets in our area know us for the last 45 years as we dealt with them for all the cattle, horses and dogs and cats in the past. We NEVER let animals suffer and we know when to put an animal down. The old horse is almost 30 years old and got skinny, about three years ago, and we called the vet as soon as it was happening that spring. However, because of his age, the vet told me that it's either cancer or old age, and because the horse was still grazing, and always had hay bales as well, he had no problem eating it. We started buying senior horse feed for him twice a day on top of that. That was three years ago, and he obviously did not have cancer and we had the vet out again, Oct 2nd, this month, and he didn't find anything wrong with him and you can contact him if you don't believe me! His teeth were worn down some, but he said they weren't as bad as he'd have expected at this age. He observed that he was still walking good, (actually trotting up to us). He laughed and said that he'll probably last another 5 years. And they have barns for the winter, but where he is now is in the pasture. If you had walked into the barn yard you would have seen all the barns. They're well looked after, so cut the BS. Dr. Steinbach is a well known vet with clinics in the city and another community as well. I don't need some #redacted# telling me I don't look after the horses. I ran a 200 cow/calf ranch, (over 400 head) for 30 years and calved out cows myself while my husband was far up north working at his diamond drilling job as a camp foreman. I handled it all. Cows and machinery. I know all about animals. I had to handle vet work myself when animals got sick, I was the one that administered the medicines and needles. If an animal is eating good, even if he's not putting on weight but also not showing signs of sickness, still runs around, the vet said there was no concern. It's called Old Age. He is not suffering! People lose weight and don't look so great at that age either. We know when an animal is suffering and needs to be put down. We're not stupid. And as for the bite on his back, that was from his son, the young stallion, and we separated them after that so it wouldn't happen again. They were together for 4 years and this only happened the first time, this summer. And Lawrence was giving him penicillan needles all through the summer against infection and ointment to prevent flies. The vet clinic can attest to that too. All the horses are always dewormed and they have a farrier once a year. Old horses don't have perfect looking hooves and during the couple of years of the pandemic, NO farrier would come out at all. Before that, we had a regular guy that was excellent but he's retired since then. I can't get farriers easily around here, now, and the closest good one willing to drive all the way here, wants a bunch of people in the neighbourhood with horses that need to be done at the same time so it's worth his time to come out. And he said he can't come till after his harvest and field work is done. We tried getting one that was closer last year, but when she came, and didn't seem to know how to do anything, without doing even one horse, then she left and still charged us alot for coming! That's how things are when you're far from the city. As for the other horses, they are here till their life is over. They did their jobs and were beautiful when they were young. They were Well trained and now they are retired and free, in their pastures, with plenty of grass and hay to eat and no one has the right to tell us they're overweight/underweight, or about their hooves. We know what we have to do. Don't need you to tell us.You are not a vet. No need to speak out like you know anything. Our vets seen all our horses, all their lives actually too. If you feel like you're entitled to judge us in one day of being here, that shows us what you came here for. You Can't even leave our poor horses alone to retire in peace, just make trouble for us. Nothing is abused here, has NEVER been abused here, and our horses have big barns for the winter and are free in pastures for the summer. They have had a good long life. They certainly are not here to "attract" workawayers, so get over yourself. They were born here and will eventually die here, as is their right. We've had SO many wonderful young people here before you came along, actual experienced horse people, not like yourselves. And they know that old horses love and need attention, such as brushing. And yes they can be ridden, and they were, this summer, even if they're older, but since you weren't experienced enough, to "make them move",as you put it, it's not the fault of the horses or me. The horses aren't in a stable where they are ridden every day like you are used to. Lawrence is 74, had a hip replacement, bad back and waiting for knee surgery, and I'm 65 with serious arthiritis, among other auto immune disorders so why you would expect us to ride the horses, is beyond me. We're retired just like the horses. They're there for anyone that wants to work with them. Most workawayers that came here, if you bothered to read all the other reviews before you came along, loved spending time with the horses, because they understood that the horses are older and need extra love and care, like brushing. Some still rode them too. These horses were trained well in their second year of life, and ridden for at least 20 years or more, by hundreds of foster kids, foreign exchange students and foreign helpers so they don't need to impress you. They've done their job and are enjoying their last years in the pasture. Then there's the garbage you wrote about our house.The spare room is a big room with a double bed and a single bed in it,and a large dresser with mirror and an armoire with drawers. Exactly like in the picture I took for Workaway. There is my baking rack on wheels, in the one corner because that's the only room in OUR house that the cats are not allowed in. People before you had no problem but it doesn't surprise me that you'd complain about that too. And of course, after you've all read the previous negative comments left for us recently, by two workawayers that were asked to leave by my husband, you would exaggerate. The picture on workaway, shows what the room looked like when you arrived, it was clean and so was the bedding and the towel you get when you arrive. If you sat on the cat couch in the living room and then sat on your bed, that's not my problem. That would be the ONLY way you'd get cat fur in that bedroom! I have the bedroom cleaned after every single person leaves. Even after the one day you stayed here! ALL bedding is clean and washed before new arrivals. The beds are good too. There are enough open dresser drawers for two people to put their clothes in. However, I'm not a hotel and everything is not brand spanking new, and we built our house ourselves in 1981, but it's always clean. If there is cat hair in that room, it was not put on there by us, the cats, or the last workawayers, as they were not letting the cats in that room EVER. So don't even try with that story. I know what goes on in this house and you don't . In all the years we had people here, not one cat ever was allowed to be in that room. AND everyone knows the bedding is clean when they arrive. EVERYTHING GETS WASHED by previous workers or ME. Bed sheets, pillowcases, and Quilts. ALWAYS. My house may look messy to you, but that's no skin off my @*$. I'm a baker and my things need to be on top of the counter because I use all the things every day. I have a side table with a bunch of baking stuff too, but the kitchen table is always available for mealtimes. It does not affect anyone's stay with us. But it appears to bother you. Too bad. We have plenty of couches to sit on too. The two big leather reclining ones don't have cat fur unless the person vacuuming isn't doing their job right. Some do and some won't I guess. After harvest, we had picked alot of vegetables off the garden before the frost so I had boxes of onions and also lots of tomatoes in boxes around our large living room. There was still plenty of places to sit. And if you wanted to sit somewhere else, you didn't know how to move a pillow or a child's toy to sit down? #redacted#. That's just disgusting. If you can't act decent when you are in my house and eating the food I made and using the facilities, you're welcome to move on, stay somewhere else or a hotel. I do NOT have to be polite to someone living in MY house that is snotty with us or talking behind our backs. And yet, I was polite and tried like I always do. Also mentioned in your "review" was about the mess downstairs. Not that it was any concern of yours, since you weren't staying down there, but we had a serious fire two years ago, and everything had to be packed up in boxes and moved downstairs and that was the hardest thing we went through in a long time. We had everything repainted and new floors put in, so everything was uprooted upstairs, and then taken downstairs, after 43 years. That's tons of stuff and because I ran the ranch, and had hundreds of workers here, with clothing for them, and had three side businesses, there was ALOT of things I needed in the house. However, once it got moved downstairs, I still haven't found the time in my busy life to go through everything and sort things out. I was hoping maybe with some helpful workawayers I'd get to it one day, but as it turns out, I've had to deal with one thing after another this year, and now this. What looks like a mess down there, is just things I didn't want upstairs as I rearranged alot of things and haven't figured out what to do with the rest. I also had to bring half of my mom's house contents back here when she died in May, this year, and my brothers had to pick up their things that I kept for them from her place. That was hard enough to deal with and I need time to get to it as I'm baking every single day for Marketfests every weekend. I also have many cabinets with my baking inventory all downstairs and also we have 7 big freezers to keep all the baked goods and vegetables etc. It's good when we get nice helpers but since Lawrence wanted two helpers to leave in July, I'm getting all this negative feedback since, like we have NO SAY in who we think can stay with us. We don't sign a contract to let someone stay with us, that we don't agree with or causes us a problem. IF there is a problem, we reserve the right to ask them to leave. We have not done that before July of this year either. I made sure they found another place to go to before I took them to town to catch the train, and left them in a nice hotel that I paid for. They did not get left on the street! My husband told me he had his reasons and was serious that the two of them had to leave asap, so I had little choice. I wasn't even aware of the problem until that very day. Seems like Workawayers think they can leave on a whim without any warning, and nothing is done about it, but WE, as hosts, don't have a right to say anything in our defence. Even if we don't agree on things, I don't leave bad reviews. I always look for the positive parts of their personalities and their stay here. It's easy because most are so nice. But this is beyond bad reviews. These lies cannot go unanswered. No one made you sleep outside in a tent with no showers or meals or beds. EVERYTHING was provided here, But that's not good enough for you! I always try my best with everyone. I have not mistreated anyone. But I know instantly when something is off. I thought it was because the dog grabbed your ankle. Which I'm sorry that happened and told you that too. But I'm not going to pretend I'm happy with you when I know exactly what you're up to. I read body language real well and I knew this wasn't going to work right off the bat. Both of you girls wanted to come at same time for two weeks and I made that happen for you because you said you were already friends. Sure wish I would've went with any of the others that applied for that time frame later. What a waste of my time. It takes a special type of person to drag someone down that's opened their house #redacted#
