Hi! We are Hannah and Jack, a dynamic and friendly couple in our early thirties looking for new opportunities and adventures!

Almost two years ago now, we packed up and left our home in south Devon in favour of living and travelling in our home on wheels, a self converted campervan along with our two fun loving cocker spaniels. We wanted to step out of our comfort zones again, break up our routine, head to new places and hopefully gain a lot of new skills, experiences and friendships along the way. We’ve had an amazing time so far and are not ready to stop yet!

We have done several workaway projects and hope to get involved with many more. In 2021, spent three months on a sheep (400) and cattle (60) hill-farm near Pitlochry, Scotland. It was one of the best experiences of our lives. We fell in love with the landscape, the people and mostly the work with the sheep. We were extremely lucky that the farmers let us be so hands on with lambing and it is an experience we will never forget. Jobs included feeding, regularly checking on the sheep as it was a remote hill farm, aiding ewes during problematic labour, fencing, taking care of the orphaned lambs, tagging the calves and much more. After three months on the farm, we were also able to farm-sit whilst the farmers took a short break and we even returned for a day of shearing in the summer too!

This farming experience led us to the Isle of Mull in spring last year (2022) where we worked on two different farms throughout lambing. Both were brilliant experiences where we were able to build on our farming knowledge. One of the farmers was also a vet… she was absolutely amazing and invited us to watch and even assist with some difficult birthing procedures.

Whilst on Mull we spent two months working on a large country estate, assisting the estate manager with land management tasks such as processing wood, gardening, mowing, painting, concreting, building a new log store and much more! We also assisted with housekeeping - carrying out weekly changeovers to a high standard including two holiday cottages and the main estate property.

Other workaway projects have included gardening, log splitting, painting and decorating a holiday cottage on the Isle of Lewis and helping to rebuild a ‘hobbit house’ / wooden cabin in the Brecon Beacons in Wales.

Other than workaway, we spend up to three months at a time in mainland Europe living and exploring in our van. So far we’ve made it up to northern Norway and our most recent trip was to Portugal this winter.

We both absolutely love being outdoors whether it’s hiking with the dogs, wild swimming, surfing, paddle boarding... When we’re not out in the fresh air you can generally find me in the kitchen baking. Meanwhile Jack enjoys tinkering in the shed, usually making something out of wood or modifying the interior of our campervan.

Some more background info about us…

I (Hannah) trained in primary school teaching but more recently spent three years working as a fundraising manager for the RNLI, whilst Jack is a Civil Engineer and Quantity Surveyor.

We both love to travel and over the last ten years or so we have had a lot of opportunities to explore new places. Our first big adventure was backpacking on a round the world ticket through the south of Africa, South East Asia, New Zealand and Fiji. We then returned to NZ a few years later, living in a small campervan and soaking up everything the wild and remote South Island has to offer. On our return home we made the decision to invest in a camper of our own and soon we welcomed a 30 year old VW into our lives! After many UK based adventures in our tiny home on wheels, we have now upgraded to something a little larger.. a converted ford transit as we needed something big enough to fit our four-legged adventure buddies.

  • Was könntest du arbeiten?

We’re very easy going, likeable people (we like to think)!! We really love meeting new people, sharing experiences and learning from others but also like our own space and find joy in discovering remote, beautiful places... whether it’s having some downtime in the garden or finding a quiet spot on a beach or up a mountain!

We are very hard working, just give us a project and we’ll really get into it! We’re looking to gain as many skills as possible by throwing ourselves into new situations. We have a good basic level of gardening and DIY skills and work well independently especially if given good direction on how things should be done! If there’s someone with knowledge to teach us then all the better! We really enjoy hands on work and being outdoors and are motivated by that sense of achievement once a project is complete.

We love animals... having two dogs ourselves, we are very capable in looking after pets and would love the opportunity to do so!

Hannah has a teaching qualification (primary school, PGCE) and Jack used to be a kayak and diving instructor.. so these skills can be shared where possible!
