We are a small family run guest lodge set in the klein karoo of South Africa.

We have plenty of wildlife, chickens, and a vegetable garden. The lodge consists of 4 older chalets that we are currently trying to upgrade and renovate and one large newly built family unit. Our wildlife consists of springbuck, zebra, a lonely giraffe, genu, antelope and oryx. These animals are our main priority, especially in time of drought so we feed them every night
As a family (grandad, grandmom, mom, dad, and 2 young boys) we run the wildlife and the hospitality side of our business with lots of enthusiasm and energy.
In summer season (October to April) the lodge is extremely busy with international guests, as a family run business we do most of the work ourselves, from checkins, to cooking for them and hosting the evenings. We definitely offer a more intimate unique experience.
In winter seasons we concentrate on building anything that would benefit the farm and animals, renovate and repair the chalets and restaurant area which takes a huge knock from the overuse and damage caused by the sun (It can reach 48 deg in summer seasons).
We are quite remote set amidst lots of hills and mountains which offers a very peaceful experience.

As we are a farm and a business, Workawayers that come help us will be taken in as part of the family and enjoy a quiet farm life in winter, learning skills from animals to building or teaching skills to our local employees. The farm is set on 120 hectares with hills and mountainous views but is quite remote. Having a drivers license is beneficial but not absolutely required. Winter seasons is also a time to do what is needed and then have the personal time to explore the local area of which has caves, and ostriches to explore. We also have a large farming community and if there were areas of interest relating to sheep or pigs or ostriches, we could arrange day outings to one of our friends farms aswell.
Should Workawayers decide to come help in summer season, this is a much busier time.
So the amount of learning and cultural exchange will also depend on the season and length of stay. Maybe you would just like to come learn about the wildlife and help feed the animals, or maybe you would like to come for a whole season and learn more about how the international tourists view South Africa from a holiday point of view, there is definitely something here to gain all year round.

We require help in all fields:
    a) Farm help will be helping to feed the animals, fixing the game fencing around the farm, fixing and cleaning of the chicken coups, help extending and maintaining our vegetable garden (planting new seeds and trimming existing plants),
    b) upgrading and maintaining our chalets from painting, fixing decks, doors, locks, roofs, building walls - anything that improves our chalets that makes it more attractive for our guests.

However anything classed as none basic i.e. chocolates, biscuits, crisps, or caviar(lol) will have to be supplied by Workawayers themselves.

    Was noch ...

As I mentioned before, in winter season there is plenty of relaxing time as the animals are mostly fed in the mornings and evenings and we are not always renovating everyday, which means that there is lots of time to explore the surrounding areas. The Klein karoo offers a lot of tourist attractions which is what makes us such a special destination, from famous caves, to ostrich farms, and mountain passes.
In the summer seasons the down time is limited but interacting with a lot of guests in the evenings almost feels like you are socializing every night which brings its own unique experience.
we are also quite remote and there is no public transport around apart from local taxis that do go into town. These can definitely be an experience on their own but I do have 2 kids that I have to take to school everyday during the week so if any Workawayer wanted to come with me into town they can hitch a lift with me. Alternatively if any had a valid drivers license, arrangements can be made for the farm cars.
