    Hello Workawayers:

We are openning a farm to table pop up to help in the development of Costa Rican cuisine identity in San Jose Area, and we need your help!

My name is Gilberto. i'm a 24 years old cook from Costa Rica. Since I graduate from Culinary School, I decided to left my beautiful country and travel around the world to cook with some of the best chefs I've ever known and learn from them about kitchen techniques and their food philosophy.

Cooking is an amazing way to connect with people, but for me as a cook, is also an amazing way to connect with the land, with the products, and with our history.

Let me tell you some facts about Costa Rican cuisine:
Costa Rican ingredients are AMAZING!!! We have the best tropical fruits in the world and the best of all, is that you can have access to them, every single day of the year.

Just for you to know, our coldest temperature in "winter" is 14 Celsius degrees. During the summer we can get 25-30 Celsius degrees, but don't worry you can chill and drink smoothies under a tree.

Geography give us a lot of micro weathers, that's why we can plant from potatoes, yuca, chayotes to milk cows and do amazing butter and cheeses in a cold weather just a few km from the beach.

In Costa Rica we have Caribbean and Pacific coast. Both of our oceans have warm water. and the fishing is absolutely stunning! the most typical fishes we can find are Snappers, mahi-mahi, Corvinas, and different kind of tunas. But you should know that we also have more than 50 rivers where we can fish amazing shrimps and lobsters.

You might be wonder: "Why nobody knows about Costa Rican cuisine if they have such an amazing products?"
Most of the people who lives in Costa Rica usually eat rice and beans every single day. It is part of our lifestyle, but when tourists go visit Costa Rica, and they see rice and beans EVERYWHERE, they think is the only food we have and they create a fake idea of what Costa Rican cuisine is about. But we want to change all those stereotypes.

Now that you know a little bit of our principal objective, it is time to tell you what we can offer to all those amazing people who wants to volunteer with us.

    - Knowledge about Costa Rican food, ingredients, traditions and the pura vida lifestyle.
    - Accommodation in our guest house.
    - Exchanging of ideas, food philosophy, compost, farm to table, organic, and local food.
    - The experience of live like a local, surf every day, and chill in paradise.
    - Amazing food prepared by our chefs friends.
    - The opportunity to live and learn with people from all over the world.
    - Foraging skills in the Rain Forest
    - Free Exersice routine every single morning.

We are always in need of help and rely on our volunteers to contribute in office work, communications and whatever else is necessary to put the organization´s activities in action!

We do have a group of chefs working with us, so you don't have to worry about cooking or working in a kitchen. We will take care of everything. But we do need help in outdoors activities as foraging, selecting, decorating, and researching.
