We are a non-profit organization committed to empowering the local indigenous communities of Bocas del Toro through education and community development. Our volunteer-driven organization operates two preschool programs, kindergarten & summer school, English classes, a Surf Outreach Mentorship Program, and has completed numerous community projects to enhance the infrastructure and quality of life for the Ngobe population.

We are looking for a proactive Volunteer Leader to join our energetic and dynamic team. The volunteer leader is responsible for organizing volunteers, providing orientation, supporting volunteers as a guide and mentor, and collaborating with other employees in various aspects of work as well as organizing activities to ensure the quality of each volunteer's experience. This position requires a 6 month commitment with future opportunities for employment after.
The volunteer leader also has an active role in the classroom as a teacher. As a member of the team, you will have the rare opportunity to not only teach, but also to be an integral member of a small team committed to providing a life-changing education to indigenous children of Bocas del Toro. This is also a wonderful opportunity for to gain experience in the non-profit field from a team of individuals that have over 30 years of non-profit development experience.
We are looking for an individual who is committed to engaging in our community and igniting positive change at the school and other educational and developmental projects.The ideal for this position is hardworking, flexible, creative, self-motivated, and a wonderful sense of humor.
Mentor, instruct, and guide volunteers
Handle all finances and provide weekly and monthly reports
Oversee daily functions of our education programs
Coordinate and provide travel for volunteers
Work with the founder to manage and budget finances
Organize social activities (such as welcome and goodbye events, surfing and beach trips, cultural outings, tours, etc.) to provide a sense of community for volunteers
Maintain awareness of volunteers' wellbeing and be prepared to adequately respond to volunteer needs.
Miscellaneous errands and odd jobs including, but no limited to: guesthouse preparation, purchasing supplies and groceries, construction
International travel experience and comfortable working with diverse populations.
Intermediate-advanced proficiency in Spanish and English
Creative, out-of-the-box thinking with a great sense of humor
Working knowledge of boats and boating safety, or willingness to be trained in this area
Experience living and working in a Latin American country and in rural or under-served communities preferred
Interest in grassroots organization, poverty alleviation, community development, and education
House in the community with other volunteers.
During free time, volunteers are encouraged to explore the beautiful Bocas islands! Activities include surfing, snorkeling & scuba diving, relaxing on the beach, hiking, biking, kayaking & more! A great place for an outdoor enthusiast who has a sense of adventure!
