Friendly and fun hardish working help needed..

We have meadows, pasture, woodland, lakes and stunning views of both sea and mountain. We are starting to grow veg, meat and eggs and milk. But we are just starting out and this is on a small and sustainable human scale that we hope will provide food and fuel for visitors to the farm and the local community. We are using holistic management, permaculture and traditional methods. We are trying to build a model of how we think food production, environmental management and community should work.

As well as being productive, we want this to be a place where people can come and slow down for a while, to think about what matters in the world and what the world needs us to give back.

The farm suits those on a real mission to learn about regenerative agriculture and those looking for a good escape from normal life into the more beautiful world we know in our hearts can exist.

We have been here for seven years but it’s a long road and we do sometimes get distracted by the need to make money or by having babies, so much of this is aspirational, but we will get there (especially with your help)..

We have a young family and so some of the time you would be left to your own devices for cooking and eating dinner etc so you would have to be happy to spend some time by yourself. Our place would suit a couple best. That said we are social and friendly people so you wouldn’t be left all alone!

Accommodation is in a caravan, garden 'boat house' a half finished barn conversion or camping depending how long your here, time of year and how busy we are. We have showers and regular toilets etc or compost ones and a stream if you prefer!

As normal we will provide food etc, though sometimes you may have to cook this yourself or to take turns in cooking for the group of us.

We try to tailor what you do what your interested in, but sometimes we just need to do what needs doing, we all have to put some time into keeping the farm and house etc tidy, as well as preparing some of our hobbit and fairy houses for guests who come here to get lost, enjoy nature and learn about what we are doing..

We are really looking for a minimum of a fortnight from volunteers as it takes s good few days to understand what makes somebody happy and what they are good (and not good) at.. if your brilliant though we could consider shorter stays..

We have two big building projects that were trying to do this summer (though they are both dependent on having enough money and help, of they don't happen there are so many exciting projects going on here)..

We need help for all sorts of jobs, but the upcoming main jobs are:

Setting up a grass fed, calf at foot, micro dairy, initially help with milking and processing from our one lovely jersey cow, Alice. This will also involve training up the other cows and building the parlour and bottling room to In Spring we hope to scale this up to be licensed to sell milk and we will go up to four cows.

Improving and expanding our no-dig market garden to feed our community

Setting some brilliant agroforestry systems both from field to silvopasture with top fruit and from woodland to coppice and grazed silvopasture.

    Expanding our pastured egg enterprise

Changing the farm over to work with our spring instead of mains water

Sustainable, low impact but quite traditional building renovation

Planting a new orchard and forest garden.

Daily care of pigs, sheep, chickens and cows.

As we have a young family and so some of the time you would be left to your own devices for cooking and eating dinner etc so you would have to be happy to spend some time by yourself. Our place would suit a couple best. That said we are social and friendly people so you wouldn’t be left all alone!

Accommodation is in a static caravan, with a compost toilet and a shower in a shed in the farm yard (its not as bad as it sounds!).

We ask you to help 9am till lunch and your welcome to jump things around a bit to fit what else you fancy doing whilst your here. As normal we will provide food etc, though sometimes you may have to cook this yourself.

We need help for all sorts of jobs, but the upcoming main jobs are:

Improving our fences to keep our cows and sheep out of our wildflower meadow and camping areas

changing the farm over to work with our spring instead of mains water

Getting the garden ready to work hard in spring

    Coppicing and woodland work

Sustainable and low impact renovation of traditional buildings.. This is probably the main job along with forestry over winter

Daily care of pigs, sheep, chickens and cows.

Accommodation is in a caravan, room in our house or then tent and on a first come first served basis, with a compost toilet and a shower in a shed in the farm yard (its not as bad as it sounds!). Once the two caravans are taken, we have a outbuilding and a garden boat house.. when we have more people and in summer you may have to camp (we have tents).. after that.. well you may have to build your own straw bale shelter !
