    Description

Our project take place in Aramo, Oyugis (Kenya)

    PRIMARY SCHOOL
Our primary school is an educational institution based near Oyugis which focuses on offering affordable, quality education to children in need. It is a rural school with around 60 students from 3 to 12 years old from humble background who need to be assisted with quality education and care. Also at Aramo (Oyugis), next to the playground of the school, we have an organic farm where we practice permaculture and experimenting in ecological living. You can also find a poultry project which needs to be developed, as the house is already there.

Some of the kids in the school can not afford even one meal per day. This is why the goal of both permaculture and chicken/poultry projects is to feed the students in the school as well as to sell the products to make the school self-sustainable. At Aramo (Oyugis), volunteers can help in any of those areas to any extent that they wish: teaching the kids in any area, playing, music, as well as farming in the "shamba" (local name for garden) or poultry. The primary school is need of some renovations, basically with the structure of the building, someone with building skills or knowledge would be appreciated although funds are also needed for such building projects. Also, and very important, school materials will be much welcome as we see them as a basic need for the kids to recieve quality education.

We welcome our volunteers to be involved in any part of this project. For those willing to volunteer at the primary school, they will be accommodated at the Director's home with a lovely family that cooks and takes care of them. This will provide an enriching culture and language African immersion which will make the volunteer feel at home.

    FEEL MOST WELCOME! KARIBU!

This is a great opportunity to learn Kiswahili and Luo languages and to learn more about African culture. Both settings are rural, having beautiful, peaceful landscapes with rolling hills. Nearby we have a volcanic lake and hot springs. Lake Victoria, Masai Mara and Ruma National Park are nearby.
