    Description

My partner and I (Glenda and Rob- sometimes know as ;-) Bob), are well into our 60s and still passionate about our wonderful country. We live in the Adelaide Hills on a beautiful plot (Clarendon). We have also just bought a property ON THE BEACH! at False Bay, South Australia.

We enjoy birds, skinks and frequent koala visits, with even the occasional echidna or wombat popping in!

We are about 20 minutes drive from beautiful swimming beaches, 20 minute drive from amazing wineries, and just 30 minutes from the City centre of Adelaide with wonderful galleries, museums, shopping, sporting and arts events.

As my partner and I are not 'young 'uns' anymore, we really appreciate some help in the garden, and occasionally a little help with household duties.

We both still work in employment 5 days per week so coming with a partner or friend will mean you have lots of time after jobs each day to just relax and enjoy your own free time together.

We like to do a solid Saturday of gardening and do fun outings on Sundays. On week days you can do a couple of hours quietly working on projects in the garden, independently visit many wonderful places for yourselves, and join us again at dinner.

We really enjoy meeting people from other countries, (we especially love Germany culture and cuisine!), sharing our lovely corner of the earth with you all, and getting to hear all about your experiences. If you are happy to dig in and help us out, we're happy to help you to a great Aussie experience.

Sorry, we cannot accept smokers at our home due to health reasons.

    FALSE BAY:

Rob and I are also very fortunate to have just bought ourselves a beautiful piece of land right on the beach, at False Bay near Whyalla, South Australia. It is quite a secluded spot, on the beach front. If you look at our profile you will see our usual home in Clarendon, AND some quite different photos which are of our False Bay ‘shack’. The house at False Bay is the quintessential classic Aussie “beach shack”. It is a shed. That is old, and actually falling apart. Really.
We are hoping to invite some Workawayers to come and enjoy this really beautiful place, and to help us out in completely gutting, relining and repainting our property over a month, in April 2024. Accommodation will be a bit ‘primitive’ so perhaps in tents or inside a partially deconstructed building. We can provide all you need. You will be warm and comfortable, just NOT living in luxury. What you will have though is warmth, fun, we will feed you well, have outings, and camp fires, fishing if you like that, walks on the beach at your doorstep, amazing sunsets, and a chance to stay in a beautiful region of SA. Just 15 minutes away is the third largest city in South Australia, Whyalla. If we are really lucky we may even have some early sighting of the giant cuttlefish for which this area is famous. Hopefully you’ll enjoy our company too!
We hope to have up to 8 people, maybe four couples, or singles, to work with us for a few hours each day, after which Rob will prep for the following day and I will take some or all of you out for the afternoon to enjoy the sights.
We will be in False Bay from March 29th until April 7th and again from April 20th to April 28th. If you would like to stay in the 12 days in between, we can probably arrange for that to happen too, if you promise to look after our view. 😉
Let me know if you’d like to join us on this adventure of bringing this Aussie icon, back to life!
Wishing you happy adventures wherever you go!

    Kind regards,
    Glenda and Rob

We are experienced gardeners and try to be as self sufficient as possible. There is still some work to do before we achieve this, but we love to share our knowledge and experience of gardening and living as independently as we can, as we have done in a previous home. We are mostly natural/organic/permaculturalists, rarely we will resort to tougher measures.
We are also very skilled in renovations and building.

We are also well travelled in Australia and can share our knowledge and experience of this wonderful land.

There is no easy public transport to our home, but we are only about 10 minute drive from local shopping and amenities and both Rob and I can collect you and take you into public transport easily from our home. There is a small general store just a five minute walk away from our home. Ideally though, you will have your own car.

Clarendon is a beautiful area and yet is very conveniently located to take advantage of the many beautiful sights and experiences in South Australia.

We live life very relaxed. Both my partner and I both still work, but we prefer to be out in the garden and to live a simple life! We thoroughly enjoy meeting new people.

We are happy to share dinner together most days, but please organize your other meals yourself. You are welcome to use our kitchen, and we have plenty of basics (salt, herbs, spices, flour etc) and sometimes loads of garden produce you can use. We love to share our evening meals.

Our exchange arrangement is 3 hours of work, per person, per day. We are quite relaxed about the arrangement for when you do the hours of work however, and can fit in with other work or plans. :-)
