    Description

My partner and I have an animal sanctuary providing a permanent home for abused, neglected or abandoned farm animals. As well as over 60 roosters, we have donkeys, alpacas, pigs, goats and sheep. We also have 5 dogs and two cats. Any visitors would have to be animal lovers, and would need to be ok with the noise of the roosters and occasionally the dogs.
I am a part-time teacher at the local high school, teaching English and Spanish.

Our sanctuary is quite new but we are getting busier all the time, so mainly I am looking for help with looking after the animals, but there will also be gardening, general maintenance and occasional small building projects, which my partner is responsible for. At times we may appreciate help with these, or painting or fencing.

We are about 10 minutes drive from the nearest town, Wellsford, and about one hour north of Auckland. We are close to the main highway. We are about 25 minutes from the beaches of the east coast, including Te Arai and Mangawhai.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We treat our volunteers as part of the family and we hope you can learn a lot from us about our country and our culture. You will be up close and personal with many different animals so this could be a great learning opportunity for those of you who aren't used to being around farm animals.
