    Hello everyone,

My name is Marcelo and I am a Japanese Brazilian living a life experience in Japan. I`m Sam from England, Ive been a volunteer here for over 6 months and help out here on the Workaway page when Marcelo is busy. Together we organize the volunteering at the art village in Chiba.

    Hello guys and girls.

We looking to host people who are self motivated, engaged and who can help us to maintain our Village project here in Chiba.
Skills that we hope you could bring include Carpentry, Construction, Eco Friendly designs and practices, maybe art or even music, but please use your creativity here.

Carpenters and people in to construction please give help us to maintain the wooden cottages, wood decks, and grounds (including forest trails).
We would like to install some showers and toilets to cabins that are currently without these facilities.

We need someone with prior guesthouse or hotel experience to help out setting rooms, cleaning and check in (Japanese language is required for checking in guests).

Summer time is knocking at the door so we will be focusing on our guests a bit more, cleaning and setting up the cottages will be the main priority and when we have time during the week other projects will be put up for you guys art, cooking, building, etc, etc.
Times with more of a focus on resetting rooms would include July/Aug/Sept

Our Art Village is an special place where you can meet people in a middle of the forest situated in Chiba prefecture only 2 hours from Tokyo, the closest station will be Chojamachi, 5 min by car or maybe 30min walking.

PLEASE CHECK or for train schedule.

We have about 10 rental cottages onsite, lots of space for camping alongside more planned in the future, also within the village is a small curry restaurant with live music events once a month usually on a Saturday (A great place to unwind).

The Art Village is a great place to relax, chill out and be surrounded by nature. It is often very quiet during the week but it can be busy on the weekends (that is when we will need you guys most).

The Supermarkets and Convenience stores are about a 35-45 min walk away. We have two bikes that you can use if you need them.
If you have an International Drivers License (IDP) valid in Japan, you could move more independently, using our small truck when you are free and the truck is not needed (please ask). Please refuel the truck if you are using it.

We have completed a tree house in the forest and the next step will be constructing a wooden deck around the base of the tree which will become a platform to erect a bell tent.
We currently don’t have a reception and would like to use a small office for this purpose so some construction is needed here such as building a staircase, fitting a front door and some decoration.
We have a lot of cottages to take care of and rely on Workawayers and a small team of staff to maintain and clean them, were they need renovation we would like to undertake this work little by little.

Working starts at around 9 :30h every morning, if you would like to have breakfast please wake up in time to be ready for this time. Please sweep the roads and tennis court of dead leaves. Ask Yoji, Nao or myself what tasks we you to complete that day.
Basic ingredients are provided but nothing fancy, a food allowance is provided for veggies and meat, if you would like to have anything else you will pay for it from your own pocket. Rice is provided here for your use free of charge.

We need people that can move independently, not always relying on being told what to do, there are always things to be done, cleaning cottages inside and out, cutting grass, weeding, pruning, etc etc. If you would prefer that we write a list of tasks to be completed please let us know and we will prepare one. Everyday can be something different depending on guests needs, the weather, season, and tasks set by the manager and producer here.

You will have 2 days off a week but the time that you arrive it will count 5 days and day off, but this will VARY FOR THE NEEDS OF THE GUESTS, we will try to be as fare as possible but, please communicate with us so that we can come to an arrangement.

We might have some lack of organization, so we expect from volunteers to use their initiative.

We look forward to meeting MOTIVATED, RESPECTFUL, CREATIVE & HELPFUL work-away travelers !

    Marcelo & Sam

Also you need to be independent and show that you care, please ask all the time Yoji for the daily duties and when finish report to him to see if he has more job to do. Communication is the key.
