    Retired man, still farming 412 acres but downsizing, remote Manitoulin Island in Lake Huron. Owner-built home, quiet setting. Hay, Jersey milking cow, shiitake mushrooms on logs, firewood, some gardening, foraging.
    Four seasons to stimulate thought and creativity.
    "Manitoulin" means "Island of the Great Spirit" in Ojibway.

    Travelers would benefit from learning about living in a truly rural Canadian community.
    I am a retired elementary school teacher with 38 years experience in classrooms and have also taught English in China.
    I am a founding member of Manitoulin Streams, a not-for-profit organization which rehabilitates local cold streams to enhance salmonid species habitats.
    I also attend local First Nation pow wows on Manitoulin Island when Covid-19 does not hinder the events.

    Travelers here would help with firewood, weeding in the garden, cultivating shiitake mushrooms, foraging for wild plants in the forest, and building maintenance which may involve carpentry and painting.

    There is limited public transportation. One lake is within walking distance, and as host, I can drive visitors to lakes farther away. The 150 acres of Carolinian forest species has walking trails.
    We have hosted "woofers" for the past ten years.
