I run a ranch in western Petaluma where I adopt mustangs and train with them for various disciplines, including horseback archery, dressage, jumping, and trail. I practice rotational grazing and I work to regenerate used pastureland for future use.
I look for help with mucking and cleaning up the ranch, moving fences for rotational grazing, grooming horses, feeding horses, and training horses (depending on your skill level).
I will teach you how to gentle a mustang using pressure/release horsemanship and teach you whatever interests you about riding. I have an indoor arena, an outdoor arena, round pen, horseback archery track, and am close to many trails. I prefer Workawayers who don't mind working hard (horses take a lot of effort and patience!) and appreciate the reward of building good communication with horses (perhaps the best feeling ever!).
I provide a tiny house at the ranch for accommodation, a portable shower, and an outhouse.
Visit the beach at Bodega Bay, go skiing in Tahoe, and hike the redwood forests in Pt. Reyes or Mendocino. There is limited public transportation, so I highly recommend renting a car of your own. We are located in the countryside.
