    Description

We are a social enterprise and grassroots movement to create a sustainable community through upcycling and waste management while creating livelihoods for families in the local region.

UPDATE: The pandemic and the subsequent economic crisis in Sri Lanka have profoundly impacted our business. Our lodgings are currently in need of renovations which we don't have the capacity to do right now, but we are happy to welcome volunteers to our project who already have other lodging sorted.

We are very sorry that we are not able to welcome you to our community fully, and hope to have it renovated in the near future. Wishing you all good health!

We are working to build a sustainable community based on zero waste while simultaneously empowering women and their families. We hope that you will teach us skills and we will be able to teach you something along the way. We look forward to having you be a part of our story!

We are located in a scenic village very close to Kandy. You are close to attractions such as the Temple of the Tooth, the Royal Botanical Gardens and more. We hope you get to make the best of your stay in Sri Lanka through volunteering with a grassroots organization and local women as well as exploring the island!

You get to stay in our HQ cottage for a minimum of 2 weeks in our village 14 km away from Kandy! It is cozy and comfortable, but humble. We ask for a minimum of 2 weeks, as we would love to really get the chance to know you and for you to get to know us and our initiative.

You would share one room in our two-bedroom cottage (second room works as a workshop) which has 2 bunk beds. There is a kitchen with a kettle and a wood-burning hearth. We do not have a gas cooker or a fridge, but it is possible to use a fridge at a neighboring house if you need it! If you wish to sleep in a tent in the patio, this is also possible. There is one toilet in the room with a bucket wash, and another squatting toilet outside. There is also an outdoor shower for hot days. We want you to be as comfortable as possible, but it is a humble place.

We have started to provide lunch at a fee through an initiative to provide more local women with an extra stream of income. They will take your order and cook your lunch every day! You are able to order delicious traditional Sri Lankan rice packets for Rs 180. There are also very cheap shops and eateries all within a 2-mile radius of our HQ. Another service that the women provide is to do your laundry for Rs 200!
