Description
Hi, we are Lia and Peter, an idealistic couple in the end thirties/early forties who are in the process of realizing our project of a very small, sustainable organic farm. We have a little child, Lena, born in August 2020.
There is still a lot of ground maintenance that needs to be done, like finishing the chicken coop, setting up fences or preparing more ground for growing vegetables. Depending on the season, we already have our own vegetables, fruit, eggs and occasional meat (although we eat mostly vegetarian, so a vegetarian or vegan diet is welcome). In the future we'd love to provide a couple more families with organically grown vegetables and ethically and sustainably "produced" animal products while living on the land with our animals in mutual respect. On our farm we currently live with two cats, mixed poultry and deer.
Peter is working as an Open Source consultant and trainer, Lia is dedicating most of her time to building up the farm and doing all the little things that need to be done (and would be grateful for a third or fourth hand from time to time). At the moment, we are focusing on building up the things outside - but there's also a lot of organizing that still needs to be done (mostly because we took the farm as-is and also had some stuff of our own and need to figure out what is needed and where to put it).
So while the setting on a hill in eastern Styria is very romantic (with sun all day and fantastic sunsets, accompanied with the sounds of our three guineafowls) and there's tasks to do, we're sure you'll have an amazing experience here :)Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
You can have a very relaxing experience in a beautiful landscape while taking part in creating yet another positive example of a different kind of living. There are a lot of possibilities for walking or hiking and there's a thermal bath nearby. There's no possibility of public transport nearby, but we can get you from the closest Station. There are two small towns around 10-15min by car, and in the village are restaurants and "buschenschanken". We are very open minded, have traveled a lot and like the exchange with other people. But we also love the calm atmosphere in this rural area of the world and are trying to leave the hectic rush of the world outside and get settled. We are still learning and trying new things while finding our own rhythm on the farm and you are very welcome to participate.
Help
Depending on the season and your skills and interests, we are looking for help with the ground maintenance but also with our "daily running" of the farm. It would also be great to occasionally have some help in the house. We can work out together, in which areas you can support us and which tasks are most urgent at the moment. Also, we feel that a lot of the things that need to be done are simply more fun when you do them together :-)
By ground maintenance of our farm we think of things like building chicken coops, setting um fences, preparing more ground for planting vegetables, planting trees, finishing and maintaining beds for ornamental plants (we would love to have our farm feeling and looking cozy and welcoming), setting up a proper place for our compost heap, building steps for easier access of certain places in the garden, and so on.
Our daily tasks includes for example caring for the poultry, planting, weeding, watering and picking vegetables. At the moment, we grow our vegetables for our own consumption and for vegetable boxes on a very small scale which we'd love to expand further. The overall plan in the next couple of years is to set up a farm, which can provide us and others with healthy food in a sustainable way.
Finally, in the house, help with preparing and preserving food, tidying up or reorganizing certain rooms (we sometimes still feel like we've just moved in - and not yet properly ;-)) would be appreciated.Languages spoken

You will have your own (double)bedroom apartment with a bathroom and (if needed) a kitchen, which was renovated by the previous owner. You will have your privacy, but you will hear the garage door opening and closing whenever we go outside, since it is next to your room. There's warm water and heating, and in summer it's comfortable and cool. You are welcome to join us for the meals (we try to keep a simple, healthy, vegetable based, mostly vegetarian diet) but are free to help yourself from the fridge. We have a lot of traveling and couchsurfing experience and are looking forward to hosting in our farm.

On the farm, they really helped a lot and enjoyed the work outside, especially the digging, getting horse manure and preparing the ground for the vegetables. I wouldn't have as much space to… read more
