Description
The land is located in beautiful gold country, California.
We are both from Europe and have been living on this land for 3 years! Building the straw bale cottage has been one of our main project.
Currently we are at the finishing stage of this creative build
which we need the most help with.
We started with workaway last year and we had the most amazing, wonderful experiences and memories.
People come to help for a week and if its a good dynamic we are open to longer length of stay.
The projects we will be working on throughout the summer, mid July through to mid sept, include the following:
Sculpting a built in seating/lounge area
Involvment with earthen plaster
Sculpting the half spiral staircase with a built in desk feature and
Fireplace detail
All of this will include straw clay sculpture, cob, earth plaster, finishing out with colored finish plaster, oil and wax.
We are also currently looking for a dynamic person to fill a diverse position to help out on the land with work away team, harvesting & cooking, Keeping communal spaces clear and clean and helping to instill this to the community. Small amount of admin, keeping website up to date and reply emails.
future projects for later this year, the balcony of the cottage, decking, landscaping and glass greenhouse attachment for the cottage and carrying on with our dirt bag house in the woods. The creation of a natural swimming pond is also something we have in mind.
We have 4 beautiful dogs and a flourishing veggie garden and a fun European vibe ! We love for people to come and stay and be inspired with our projects. We are located close to Grass Valley and Nevada City, also to the magnificent Yuba River.
We have a nice communal outside kitchen and a beautiful hot outdoor shower. Also different accommodations including a tree house, tiny home trailer, tents. Everyone welcome to bring their own.
We are looking for people interested in natural building and tending the gardens and the wild, artistic, creative interested minds who are thoughtful with their surrounding.

You will learn to work with all types of sustainable building materials! As well as developing a raw piece of land, and if you are lucky, French ! ;) Also will be able to eat whatever you want from our veggie garden where we have lots of greens, zucchinis, eggplants, tomatoes, onions etc etc
Help
We are looking for people that have a small knowledge of building and/or understanding of using tools.
- Running a chainsaw would be extremely useful.
We have many trees to fell for earthen building project, expanding our outside kitchen to 2 stories, using dropped trees for timber structure for the second floor.
- Looking for people who have knowledge of building a pond on the land to put our pirate ship in.

What else ...
Many musical events and art walks and farmer markets in towns close to us (20 mins away) like Grass Valley and Nevada City. This area is abundant of workshops including yoga, ayurvedic medicine, artistic creations, spiritual guidance for the healthy minds, bodies and soul.
We are blessed to be close to the Yuba river which is an incredible place to relax and swim with scenic views and deep swimming holes.
We have all the lakes (including Lake Tahoe) and rivers.
Plenty of rock climbing and mountain biking, hiking, water sports and all that fun stuff.
Also we are close to Lake Tahoe (2 hours drive).
We have a truck you can use.
