  • Description

    Hi Everybody,

We are an austrian family of seven (Magdalena, Paul and kids Anna 25, Juli 22, Alexander 20, Jakob, 15, Aleks 12, also a dog and some cats).
We both are highschool art teachers with a love for travelling, art, archeology, nature and an interest in sustainable living and farming.

A few years ago we inherited a small house located in the austrian alps, in St.Johann im Pongau. Since then we have been working on making projects happen and bring live to the little mountain hut. Every year in summer we have an art week for local and international sculptors. During the year wood workshops take place with highschool students and in the winter season the hut is rented to tourists, who enjoy the skiing in the area.

There is also an association, founded in 2011 in Hallein (Austria) together with artists (especially teenagers) from Europe, Caucasus and Middle East, and Africa (Ghana). Objectives include a common development work in arts and culture by award scholarships for summer workshops, organizing exhibitions and developing art projects in public space.
Since 2008 study of mosaic and pebble mosaic; school projects; Organization and participant of wood sculpture symposias, art workshops, since 2014 studying classical studies.

We are currently planning a project in may 2018 and would love for you to come help and realize our ideas as well as bring your own ideas to the project.

We are looking for people to come and stay between the 3rd and 30th of may. There will be a bunch of projects in this time period:

Between 10th and 13th of may an art project is scheduled, which will explore tales and mythology of different continents (europe, africa, oceania) and the perception people have of these cultures. An international group of young artists will be working and expressing their ideas using different media.

Between 14th and 19th of may a field trip to Brussels is scheduled. There is a possibility of taking part if you are interested.

Between 21st and 25th of may a project is scheduled in the hut. A group of high school students will be staying and working on their own school art project.

The rest of the time you will be working on your own projects. Depending on your interests and abilities you can help with:

    -planting a vegetable garden
-realizing your own art project (there is a small art studio and materials available)
    -building a theatre for sculptures
    -planting trees
-work in the woods and garden

There is a possibility for up to 5 workawayers staying in the month of may. If you are interested in the projects above please contact us. We are looking forward to hearing from you!

You will be staying in a 90 m² mountain hut/house. The house consists of a living room, kitchen, bathroom and 2 sleeping rooms. You will find all the necessities in the house: WIFI, TV, kitchen utensiles, ... The house is located on a hillside in the austrian alps. The next city (St. Johann) is a 15-minute drive or a 30-minute hike (downhill!!). There you will find supermarkets, bars, train station, cinema et cetera.. You should be aware that there is no public transport from the house to the city and a car is not always available, so bringing your own car would be advisable, but not necessary. It all depends on your own preferences, really. If you enjoy staying in a scenic, quiet mountain hut, surrounded by beautiful nature and don´t mind a hike to reach the next city, you will love it here. If you are looking for busy city live, you might be wrong.
The house is surrounded by woods and fields, several hiking trails start right at the doorstep. A few farms will be your only neighbours.
We (your hosts) will not be staying with you (be aware of that), we live in a small town, about an hour drive away, but will visit on the weekends and will always be available via phone.
The city of Salzburg is 50 km away.
