Friendly workawayers required for various projects in Central Brittany, France. End of July onwards
Hi. We are Philippa and Allan, a friendly and sociable, semi-retired British couple (young at heart early 60s) who moved from Yorkshire to France 15 years ago. Our home is in a small village called Kerfourn, near Pontivy in Central Brittany.
We are looking ideally for a friendly couple who would be willing to help us with projects outside and inside the house. The garden needs some attention plus we have some DIY projects in our loft space to tackle and some painting. Our barn is also in need for a huge declutter.
We have hosted workawayers for the past 14 years. It's been a great experience and we love having fun and interesting people to stay. We've met some fab people from all over the globe and have kept in touch with several and have even met up again with them when we've been on our own travels to Australia and New Zealand, oh...and we've also been workawayers ourselves.
We are in a village location, which has some basic amenities including a bakery, bar etc.
We are avid travellers, housesitters and houseswappers. I (Philippa) love drama and runs an Amateur Dramatics group in the village. I also enjoy arts and crafts, sewing and upcycling. Allan likes all kinds of sports and played rugby for 30 years. We both enjoy board and card games, pub quizzes, visiting various vide-greniers and brocantes locally and good conversation over a glass of wine.
We have hosted workawayers from all over the globe. We would ask that you have a good standard of English to make the most of your stay. We both also speak French
The area itself is lovely. Beautiful villages and towns to explore, great walks and countryside. Our home is just 10 minutes drive to Pontivy, a large town, with many impressive Napoleonic buildings and a fabulous castle. We also enjoy visiting Josselin with its castle right on the canal and its bustling Saturday market.
It's beneficial if you have your own transport but we can take you places. All meals provided (Allan loves cooking and we tend to eat fresh produce) Sorry but we cant cater for strict vegetarians or vegans.

Brittany is a great location with lots of heritage and lovely countryside. Lots to do.

We like practically minded workawayers who don't mind getting 'stuck in', can use their own initiative and have a 'Can Do' attitude in helping unsupervised.

Martina came to us for a couple of weeks and was easy to host, and pleasant company. She helped with a variety of tasks and learnt some new skills. Chrissy was an outgoing sociable person who fitted right in and was very useful to have around. She was great with the animals, got stuck into a variety of tasks on our barn renovation and picked up some new skills along the way.

Ali and Nigel were very good workawayers, and got stuck into a variety of tasks, including clearing brambles, erecting a large Heather fence along the perimeter of our property, sanding and painting. We were with Phillipa and Alan for nearly a month and had a fun and eventful time. Great BBQ's with their friends and families and lots of fun. We did some painting and decorating and erected a long fence and other jobs. We wish them luck with their refurbishment.

Phillipa and Allan were wonderful wonderful people!!! They were a lovely English couple who enjoyed a glass of wine or two and helping to immerse you into their French village. The tasks were not too hard (emptying a small barn and stacking firewood) and there were plenty of breaks with cups of tea yippee! A great week we had there.
